“Most stunning Bangkok river view, this is it!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2014

It is about the stunning view of Chaopraya river and "Wat Arun" that this hotel can offer best in Bangkok old city area, the number of rooms available have made this hotel very popular even for Bangkokian. We then decided to spend a memorable New Year night at the hotel. We considered it's worth our payment since we cannot have better view from any hotel in Bangkok, I believe. Do not expect the room quality and service much it's just a small 4 star boutique hotel with less faciities, enjoy the atmosphere and feel the breath of real Bangkok life. Another advantage was the hotel's breakfast was very yummy and quite special, you cannot miss it.

First of all, the hotel is not easy to find! :) So please help yourself and get the address and number ready in Thai before you aboard a taxi. The driver can help call the hotel and find the way.

We booked this hotel for her nice view as well as the local cuisine. The roof top bar was nice but it can be a bit too sunny :) so come a bit later if you have exposed yourself to the tropical sun for too long. The sunset view over the morning temple across the river was really nice.

You can get the same view from your room if you pay extra and I personally will recommend to get a river view room, otherwise, you could find much cheaper options somewhere else. The location of this hotel is not great for street food, markets and massage. You will need a Tuktuk to Kaoshan road or you will spend quite some time walking in the heat and humidity. ;)

We stayed during the valentines day so the restaurant had only a set menu, western style... very disappointing and expensive. We had couple friends living in BKK joined us and the four sets cost us about 10000 BTH and we also had three bottles of wines with similar if not higher price. You could have the entire trip covered by this amount! :)

Room Tip: river view rooms are nice with some extra. book early to get an early bird discount.

We needed a taxi for 4 km ride and the hotel security should check us a car ..suddenky the price was 3 times higher as usal -(((( big MINUS also the hotel kitchen is nice but small portions ( 8 forks spaghetti and the pasta is away) very spicy without asking if we wish so....nearly we couldnt finish our dinner. No elevator ,no cupboards. View fantastic....lety see what happens tomorrow.

I stayed at the Sala Rattanakosin for three nights in early February 2014. As other reviewers have suggested, it really is in the middle of where you need to be, especially from a tourism point of view. The rooms are spacious, very modern and it's clear that the owners of the hotel have set their sights very high (and are achieving their goals).

I was recommended the hotel by a friend in the travel business in the UK, who told me that the hotel was new, luxurious, centrally placed and very boutique, which proved to be a succinct and accurate description. Dependent on your room choice, you will either open your curtains in the morning to a view of Wat Po, or, luckily enough for me, the river and Wat Arun, either of which, from this particular Londoner's point of view are absurdly exotic.

The food is very high end and I got chatting with a number of non residents who were just visiting to experience the restaurant and roof top bar. On one night there was a wedding reception in the hotel, which surely is high praise for a culinary city like Bangkok.

Right next to to hotel entrance is the madness and mayhem of a busy market. The bustling flower market is a five minute walk away and Chinatown is no more than ten minutes on foot. There is a ferry stop within a five minute walk of the hotel and the Royal Palace or Wat Po are simply over the road. If you really want to go there, the Khao San Road took me 25 minutes to walk there and about 5 terrifying minutes in a tuk tuk, on the way back...

Nothing at all to do with the hotel, but beware of official looking individuals in uniforms, hanging around the Royal Palace adjacent to the hotel, who might get chatting to you about alternative activities and arranging a cheap tuk tuk, on the pretense that "the Palace is shut for a Buddhist holy day today" It's part of a slick gem scam and I was lucky to get away with it. Again, I must stress that the only significance of me putting this heads up in my review, is the proximity of the hotel to the main tourist attractions and the dodgy characters that unfortunately are unavoidable in any big city.

Overall, highly recommended. I hope to return very soon.

Room Tip: For me, the river view would just nick it.

This was my husband's and my home base for exploring Bangkok. We wanted to see mostly old city/historical locations, and the bulk of our "must sees" were in rattanakosin. If you're like us and more excited about history/youthful nightlife than shopping, this is the place to stay, location wise.

The airport pickup was prompt and check-in was friendly, even in the middle of the night when we arrived. We had told them it was our honeymoon and they gave us a chocolate cake in our room. The service both in the hotel and the restaurant was welcoming but unobtrusive.

We liked the modern style of the room, and the bed was a real highlight, SO SO SO cushy and comfortable. The room was nearly always clean and pest free EXCEPT for some tiny ants we found in the bathroom once. But they weren't leaving the bathroom, so we thought nothing of it, and after housekeeping had come that day, they were gone.

We had breakfast at the restaurant every day, what a thrill to eat breakfast by the river, with the breeze, looking out at Wat Arun every morning. The food was wonderful. If you eat a LOT you might find the portion a little small but I though they were just right.

Excellent location for throwing a party or reception. The view is amazing of wat arun and the wat pho and there is a great evening breeze. Snack food is delicious and so is the BBQ they have once in a while. We hosted 25 people there and it was great. Drinks are good and most of them reasonably priced. Staff very friendly.

We had booked a room on the Wat Pho side of the hotel which was perfectly nice but when we saw the view from the rooms across the hall we quickly upgraded. We loved watching the traffic on the river, especially at night. The location couldn't be better, short walking distance to the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, river transport and much more. We loved the look of the room, very contemporary with clean lines. The breakfast was wonderful, you could order one of four or five choices, all really well prepared. Everyone on the staff was friendly and very helpful. The only caveat was that there are stairs involved. Our fourth floor room was 62 steps up a circular stairwell. Well worth the work as long as your knees are OK. Even though we had the name of the hotel and address written out in the Thai language the taxi driver had some trouble finding it. We told him across from Wat Pho which got him to the right area but he took the wrong little street (or alley) toward the river. Two men at the end of that street showed us where to go and even carried our luggage for us to the hotel. As of February 6th the building on the right side of the corner leading into the hotel is being rehabbed and has a covering that is yellow with lots of fake green windows. Hope that helps.

Room Tip: The added cost of the river view rooms is well worth it!
