“Awesome Art Museum in Bangkok”
Reviewed January 5, 2014

MOCA has a unique collection of modern art with an emphasis on modern Buddhist art. I thoroughly enjoyed it. A must see if you are an art lover (or even liker) visiting Bangkok.

“Inspiring showcase of Thai contemporary art”
Reviewed January 1, 2014

Overview:
Finally Bangkok has a stunning art venue, housing an exquisite collection of Contemporary modern art, showcasing some of the most gifted Thai artists.

The Good:
The venue in which this collection is housed is simply stunning. Spacious and tranquil, the experience itself takes on an almost spiritual quality.

The first three floors have exhibitions featuring the best works on display, and one is struck by the technical brilliance and unique references used throughout. Even though you are not seeing a Van Gogh, Calder or Kadinski, the impact of these local artists are not diminished by their total lack of fame. There are dozens of truly outstanding works that would not look out of place in the MOMA / Hermitage or any other famous Art Museum.

Staff were friendly and patient and some could speak a little English and even helped with some questions on particular works.

The not so good:
The top two floors were significantly less impressive and the exhibition of Baroque / Victorian art housed in the Western section, mostly those housed in the Richard Green room were a little suspect. Though technically flawless, Im not even sure whether some of them were authentic.

You judge for yourself.

Overall:
Koudos to the owner of the collection. It was a fantastic outing well worth the effort and entrance fee.

“more a doing center than a museum”
Reviewed December 30, 2013

There are few interesting things to see. It's more a place where artist are exposing or working than a real museum.

“An interesting, alternate attraction”
Reviewed December 29, 2013

There was no one, absolutely nobody else when we visited. The whole place seems brand new. It was a bit uncomfortable since there were a lot of staff for such an empty place, and they were all watching us.

A big collection of works by Thai artists, it was an interesting experience overall. Beware, it is quite far from the city and hard to get to.

“Oasis of art”
Reviewed December 29, 2013

Museums in Thailand had run their course, or so I thought. MOCA is a private endeavor (not unlike the Getty in LA and Santa Monica) that display a wonderful permanent collection and regular temporary exhibits.

The museum building itself is a work of art and one should spend at least a few hours wandering around. There is a wonderful cafe on the ground floor that has not yet learned to charge tourist prices :)

The terrace overlooks a sculpture garden, and efforts are being made to hide the industrial site next door.

Then gift shop is limited and perhaps when the owner thinks about finding an operator there will be a better selection of gifts, art books and souvenirs .
