Cheap Charlie's is a Bangkok institution... Soon to be turned into condos. It's definitely worth a visit just so you can say you've been there.
Cheap it definitely is. All drinks 80 baht and if you make it till closing time you can hear the awesome prerecorded 'time to go home' message. Cheap, cheerful, don't expect to get a seat and you'll have a great time.

ful expat place. go early so you can see all the crazy things hanging off the bar. its how I imagined Thailand was for expats in the 50s. pretty sure I was sitting next to mercenaries. the restaurant at the end of the road has great atmosphere too. most bars in Bangkok were modern and commercial

I was recommended this place and came on a Saturday night and it did not disappoint. Located down the alleyway on Soi 11 it really is something. Has a train and lots of old wooden artefacts.

The drinks are really cheap and the place was packed! Although there are not many seats, it is a good atmosphere and everyone seemed friendly, lots of expats and worth a visit!!

This place man, this place is something extra. It maintains that old strange and dodgy feeling of post Vietnam War Bangkok. Just a roadside stall more or less, with a few seats and a mind blowing array of weird souvenirs, wooden trinkets, plastic dolls, human skulls and a real, working choo-chooing model train. All of these things are encrusted in a sooted Bangkok patina of exhaust, woodsmoke, dust and debris, making the colour palette of the whole place almost uniform. The owners like old rock music and country and western which is what is played here most of the time, as far as I've heard. The bar serves through two small holes in this wall of strange artefacts and drinks are CHEAP. Johnny Walker Black Label - eighty baht. Chivas - same, red label, same. All shots are eighty baht! Cheap Charlie's has been here since the Early eighties and has catered to veterans, expats, weirdos, dunks and rowdy people since. But make no mistake - the atmosphere is friendly enough for you to safely bring your kid, if your kid isn't afraid of drunken people and cigarette smoke.

Awesome place!

Atmosphere is unreal, its located between modern and high buildings which make great contrast beacuse bar's design is ... tribal and eclectic. Drinks are realitively cheap but i've seen cheaper.
