Hello Hostel is a decent choice for a few nights in Bangkok. I paid $10/night for a bed in an 8-bed dorm w/ AC and found it to be pretty clean. The front desk staff is very unhelpful, and may even ignore you all together upon arrival. However, the location makes up for the inconvenience, as you're just blocks away from the action on Khao San, but the hostel itself is quiet.

Just FYI, I had my laundry done through the front desk and it came back sans a pair of Nike socks and belt. The staff tracked both down within a day, but only after I realized what was missing and made a bit of a stink. Be sure to check that you get everything back if you go this route.

Room Tip: They have individual rooms on the upper floors for approx. $25/night

Not too shabby, to be honest. The staff wasn't overly nice or helpful but the dorm was very clean. Just far enough away from Kao San Road that the music doesn't keep you awake, but close enough to walk to without losing your breath. Each bed had its own light and outlet and there's a reasonably priced internet cafe in the lobby. Now the best part, the hostel provides toilet paper in the bathrooms (woah). It will only take 200Baht (about $6.50) out of your pocket but just a warning, there is also a 200B deposit so make sure to have that withyou upon booking!
Would stay again. Compared to Rainbow hostel down the road, where I stayed the first two nights (and wish I hadn't) Hello hostel goes above and beyond.
