This is a “must see” for Bangkok. The Grand Palace is actually a complex of the palace and areas of worship. This is beautiful, the mosaic work is as stunning as I’ve seen.
So . . . we had read online to go early, but jet lag caught us and we went around noon. It was 96 degrees and wall to wall people. We got pushed around quite a bit. It’s all outdoors with little shade. Although I’m glad we went, one of my girls was feeling ill in the sun and with crowds, so we rushed through. The next day we went to Wat Po by 8:00 am—what a difference—cooler, no crowds, time to read and wander and ponder. Learned the hard way ! But still worth seeing.
Practical tip: I had not read this, but wherever you get dropped off, you have to walk through a pedestrian area to enter. It’s neatly sectioned off to funnel everyone the same way.
