“Nice Place Shame About the Mini Tour”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2013

We arrived outside the Grand Palace only to be told by one of security that 'they' had gone to lunch. We do not quite know who 'they' are! Then got asked if we wanted to go an see three other temples for 20baht. The tuk tuk driver took us to one and then onto 2 x tailors and 2 x jewellery stores. It was an extremely hot day and we were driven around for over an hour whilst being taken to these four places we did not even ask to go.
After the second I expressed my annoyance and we wanted to be returned to the Grand Palace, only to be told that the driver would not get his gasoline stamp if we returned now. How true this is I do not know. We di the other two stores in a few minutes and returned to the Grand Palace. This is a warning to those who get to the Grand Palace, if you do not want to go on a grand tour of jewellery shops and tailors go straight into the Grand Palace do not loiter.
Rant over, the Grand Palace is beautiful and well worth a visit, but after our experience with the Bangkok heat and a tuk tuk we were too hot and bothered to stay for more than one hour!
Take note of the dress code too!

“The architecture is absolutely amazing”

The architecture is absolutely amazing. The only drawback to this Number One tourist attraction are the pressing crowds. But you still don't want to miss the Number One tourist attraction in Thailand!

“A Must See attraction in Bankok”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2013

It's literally breathtaking.... The architecture is so inspiring, i was literally awestruck. They follow very pretty strict dress code, i was wearing 3/4ths.. and had to borrow pajamas from the counter, they just keep a deposit 200 THB for that and return the money when you deposit the pajamas back to them.

Please be aware of certain frauds who will tell you that this place is closed and will open after one hour etc, one beggar like fellow told me that they won't allow me to enter because of the dress and send me the other way. On the other gate another fellow told me that the palace is closed and will open at 2pm. The palace guards were sitting just behind him and were doing nothing, when i asked them they simply showed me the main entrance. I felt it would be better if just enter from the main gate.
Thankfully we didn't found the guy again and rest of the journey was amazing.

Please don't forget to wear sunglasses and hat while visiting the grand palace. My wife nearly fainted due to the heat and humidity.

“A must see but with a guide”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013

Definitely not to be missed, go really early to miss crowds. But a guide is so worth it, we used Tongs Tours, fantastic. So personal and we learnt so much, the temples would not have meant as much without a guide thats for sure, also you do not get hassled by anyone when you have a guide and will direct you as to dress etc.
