“Must See in Bangkok”
Reviewed March 1, 2013

If going to Bangkok - make sure you leave plenty of time to see the Grand Palace.
Be careful of people telling you teh Grand Palace has already closed for the day - ignore them and go direct to ticket office. You need a while to see everything so give yourself all afternoon anyway.
Close enough to Wat Pho - to do both in a single day (plus possible Wat Arun - if start early enough)

“The essence of Thailand.”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

This is what you have seen on a million postcards: temples galore, menacing soldiers and tons of little shrines with statues of Buddha. It is a must see if you can stand the heat and the crowd.

It's beautiful and contains many different architectural styles. The detail is incredible. When you go through the entrance, the crowds went right... we went left and to the back, totally avoiding the masses which afforded us a wonderful, relatively unmolested visit. Make sure your knees and shoulders are covered, you can't get in in shorts and tank tops. I carried what was basically a beach cover up and just put it on over my clothes.

“You must see this”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

The grand palace is one of those must see places. It was absolutely packed the morning I went and I have heard since, that it is better to go in the afternoon - fewer people, but hotter. Do dress appropriately or you will have to hire clothes. The guidelines can be found on the Internet or from a tour guide. The temple that houses the emerald Buddha is just one part of the complex. The palace grounds themselves are very interesting. You can save money by going on your own but I recommend a guide. My guide was excellent and gave me a lot of information about the complex, Buddhism and Thai history.
