Considering how chaotic is Bangkok, and that I'm not very keen on bargaining with taxi and tuk-tuk drivers, it's location was perfect. You have the ugly but typical Kao San Rad very close, plus restaurants, massages and all the main attraction. The hotel as a free shuttle every morning that goes to the Grand Palace.

BUT, ask for a room in the new area with window to the back side of the building, because the street that it is located is incredible noisy.

Other high point was the swimming pool.

I worth it the price, totally recommendable.

Room Tip: Ask for a room of the new area, it costs the same and are totally different. I arrived very late...

The Viengtai, from the outside, looks like one of the 'posher' hotels in Rambuttri/Khaosan, but the interior of my room was not good.

Honestly, the air-conditioning unit (which blew warm, fetid air) was the size of a large cupboard, and installed at least 20 years ago. The fridge never cooled down, the bath was stained, and the beds were saggy. The old-style tv (a 20 inch relic) lost its signal whenever the rains hit (unlike the hotel I had stayed in previously in the same area).

The location is great, but there really are plenty of cheaper, more contemporary hotels in the area who provide things like LCD tv, free wifi, and new a/c units!

The only real positive for me were the staff - courteous and polite when they are clearly overworked.

I can only assume that the other reviewers here with positive things to say had booked themselves something better than the standard room...

We stayed in this hotel for a few nights when we just got to Bankgkok, before we started backpacking. It was a great place to stay, right near the Koh Sahn Road and full of shops and internet cafe's nearby. It was relatively cheap whilst being very clean and well maintained.

The swimming pool was a bit of a bonus.

Definitely recommend people to stay here for a bit of comfort before moving on travelling.

Viengtai was a good, clean and cheap hotel in a great location. The rooms were faily basic but clean, with good aircon and a powerful shower (designed for people under 4ft tall).

The location is great, just off the Koah San Rd. As a result it can be a bit noisy at night.

Room Tip: Go for a high floor, if possible at the back of the hotel. There are several lifts.

Stayed here on 3 occasions in July, August this year, 2 nights each time. Location is superb Rambuttri has so many cafes, bars, massage shops and stalls and it is right next door to Khaosan. It is 15 minutes stroll to the River ferry or there always tuk tuks and taxis to take you away. The rooms are clean air conditioned with good amenities. Wifi, TV, power shower, bath, Tea and coffee in room, 2 swimming pools. Quiet rooms at the back. The breakfasts are plentiful and varied.

The staff are Excellent! Really helpful and friendly, could not fault them. Left luggage here on 2 occasions whilst travelling . We were very well looked after.

We have visited Bangkok over 20 times and stayed in some very fine hotels at fine prices. We will be back to this one next year.

It's not 4 star luxury or 4 star price.
It is a good clean hotel with great staff and an excellent location.

Room Tip: Ask for one at the back, it's quiet.

This is a fantastic location. The food on Rambuttri Road is fantastic and very cheap; there are heaps of good massage places; the other quieter end of Rambuttri (across the intersection) is taken up by a huge long chillaxed restaurant with a huge cocktail selection; Khao San Rd is just next door; the ferry is just a short walk away (and catching that to Central connects you with the BTS Skytrain). It's also walking distance to the Grand Palace.

This isn't a flash ritzy hotel but it's very comfortable for the price. 24hr reception, swimming pool, buffet breakfast (our travel agent negotiated for that to be included for free), and a voucher for 3hrs of free wifi provided with breakfast (ask at reception).

My sister and I always pay for a Deluxe Room (it's just that bit nicer) at the BACK of the hotel overlooking the pool- that way we get none of the music and street noise.

Location was really good, and the price for this hotel was reasonable. I think there were not so much middle-class hotels near Khaosan district. If you want to stay at middle-class hotels, I recommend this hotel. We stayed at a deluxe room on the opposite side of the noisy street, so we could not hear any noisy sounds and we could sleep well. Staff were not so friendly, but not so uncomfortable. Breakfast was good.
