The Manhattan Hotel has had good and bad reviews over the years. However, we have stayed there quite a few times and have always enjoyed the place and the service the staff have provided. Some people expect too much for what they pay. In essence, its a budget hotel for the tourists and you can get a room for around $A50 or less.
Sure, you can probably do better but it has location, location , location. ASOKE sky train is a very short walk away and its close to Robinsons Dept store and a small food court .
This time we had stayed at the President Solitaire for a few days after reading the glowing reports on the forum and we loved it. However, we had friends to meet who were on a budget and we decided to stay a few days at the Manhattan with them before driving down to Hua Hin.
The hotel has been pretty much renovated now- it took a few years but it seems to be finished. There are quite a few new staff all friendly and helpful. The pool is still only average but it serves its purpose of giving you a cool off after a hot days shopping.

We stayed on the fifth floor in a superior (read standard) room. The floor has new carpet, the rooms are renovated with new beds, and a new fitout in the bathroom as well. The workmanship is not what I would like in my house at home with a few gaps here and there and silicone used to fill them before being painted. Overall comfy and a good nights sleep and no noise. the room and bathroom were clean and there is a safe in the room which is good.
Breakfast is good for the price and quite an adequate choice of food is available Breakfast from 7am to around 10am.
There are a couple of new bars on the ground floor and a happy hour each afternoon for an hour from 4.30pm and then another at 10.30 pm.There is an outside bar just off the street. Drink prices are reasoanble for a hotel. Food in the hotel comes in around the 6.5/10 mark or even 7/10 for some dishes but a service charge and VAT is added which makes it a bit more exxy than I like to pay. Mind you its not too excessive.. We have eaten here a few times but find the food cheaper elsewhere and closeby as well.
The hotel is probably not quite touching the 3 stars mark even with the renovations although its not a two star job either- I say 2.9 stars is about right.
Unfortunately, the internet is not free but if you walk over the road at the new Sheraton hotel and buy a beer they give you free wifi.
There is a small gym- nothing special- equipment dated.
Its a handy place to stay when you are on a budget and don't want too much in the way of hotel luxury.More
