This hotel is at the very far end of Sukhumvit Soi 5. There's currently lots of construction going on, and In the 6 nights we stayed there, the sewage on the street flooded twice. The hotel decor is dated and old, while the service staff also have a sort of resigned and unhappy air about them with the exception of a few.

Our rooms on the 17th floor were clean, large and quiet, furnished with comfortable beds and Samsung televisions. However the bathrooms reeked of sewage and the pipes were noisy at night. There is no room safe or free wifi - they charge 100 baht for an hour, and only one device can use it at any time. We had 2 complimentary bottles of water a day with our stay, but after we checked out and returned to the hotel to collect our luggage and requested for one bottle, the lobby staff wanted to charge us 10 baht. The restaurant straight-out refused and we got one ourselves for 5 baht down the street.

The breakfast costing 307 baht a person is totally not worth it when you can get a filling, tasty meal at the Foodland cafe for less than 1/4 of the price. We tried it one morning and unanimously declared the only good thing in the entire buffet to be the plain porridge.

It takes about 5-10 minutes to walk to the main road, and a further 5-10 to get to Nana BTS. Plenty of food can be found on the street, with a Foodland supermarket nearby featuring a 24 hour cafe. The hotel is located within the Middle Eastern enclave, so there were kebab stands aplenty at night as well. We had the best phad thai in our trip at a street stand one soi away (soi 3, I think). For more international creature comforts, there's MacDonalds and Starbucks at the main road (alas no free wifi there either).

The hotel features a small swimming pool as well as a billiards room that closes way too early for a vacation schedule! The fitness centre looks super run-down with rusty and dirty equipment.

There are several massage parlours at the ground floor, but don't bother going to Milky Way (right at the foot of the hotel). Unfortunately we did not have the luxury of trying others during our trip, so I am unable to report on them.

At night, the area becomes very crowded with street stands selling porn and related stuff, so if that's really not what you'd like to see in your trip I would suggest you stay at a different region.

Stayed at The Royal Benja in the last week of November 2012 for 5 nights.

Was given Room 1116 on the 11th floor. The room was spacious, clean with a good bathroom.

The hotel is very well connected to Nana Sky Station….about 5 mins. walk.

The only drawback was the rude and uncooperative Reception staff.

Though we had requested for a late check out at 5 pm months prior to our arrival, the hotel asked us to pay Baht 1000/ - extra for the same, otherwise checkout at 12 noon.

On the 3rd night, spoke to another member of the Reception staff who allowed us to stay up to 2 pm. Could this not have been communicated to us on arrival, do we need to constantly plead ?

Requested the staff one afternoon for a pair of scissors to cut off the price tags from our t-shirt shopping. They refused and said we were welcome to bring the same to the Reception and cut off the tags there as they had only one. We purchased the scissors from the market and did the needful.

The breakfast menu is repetitive and often the salad dressings run out. It takes the staff loads of time to replenish the same.

On checking out of the hotel, we were given a fat phone bill BAHT 754/- for a call made to a LOCAL taxi driver to confirm his arrival which stated we spoke for 28 mins !!!!!! On our several explanations to the Reception staff that we had hardly spoken for 2 mins , besides the local driver was not so proficient in English to converse for 28 mins, we were unheard and had to dish out the full exorbitant amount.

Used the internet facility near the Reception for hardly 10 mins but had to pay Bahts 100/- for an hour’s usage !!!! They did not have charges for lesser duration….minimum charge is for 1 hour duration !!!!! Y r the hotel guests penalized like this ?

A TIP : Came across a very HELPFUL, FRIENDLY and HONEST TAXI DRIVER whose rates were far less than the same charged by the local travel agent. He is very dedicated, concerned and makes all attempt for a comfortable journey. His name : CHERDCHAY CHOENGHOM. Tel : 087-9314514. Will surely use him again on my next visit to Bangkok. We used him for our day trip to Safari World and then shopping.

On knowing we were running short of time, he even skipped visits to a Local Tailor as well as The Gem and Jewellery Factory where on taking visitors, the driver gets points/commission. He would precisely come and pick us up from the right pick up points as pre discussed on our various shopping trips . This was one of the HIGHLIGHTS of our trip. THANKS CHERDCHAY ! : - )

Good central location, lovely big clean room on the 27th floor, nice firm beds and peace and quiet. At this height we had an ever changing view of this exciting city. very fast lifts.
The only downside was breakfast... my 3 days there were always a battle to get a seat, coffee or even food, it was ok if you had time to wait.

Room Tip: The higher the better view

The hotel needs a bit of a revamp. The walls are patched, dry and not pretty good to see. Although I liked the ambience of the hotel. The menu card for breakfast was very good and the quality of the food was finger-licking good.
The room's furniture were in a sorry state. They could install more with the size of the rooms they offer.
The location of the hotel is also quite good since it is just 5-10 mins away from the main road. Huge malls and shopping arcades are just a stroll away.
All together, it is very quite. You get a good view of the city around.
Try to get hold of a room in the top most floors so that you don't get disturbed by the sky-train whizzing past. Plus, do get a tan at the sun-deck near the pool. Its quite cool.

Have seen many Chinese travel groups arriving and leaving in coaches.
People wouldn't chose this place individually. The service is poor, the breakfast even worse.
Nothing much positive to say just that it is a 5 min stroll to happening places ... in case you bring yourself a company from a bar ... the hotel will rip you off with 800 THB for an additional person.

I won't go there again.

Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights, the view from the room was amazing, the room itself was spotless clean with fresh towels and maid service everyday. Agree that the room decor was a little dated but then again for the amount of time we were in the room it wasnt a problem, after all we didnt travel so far to spend all our time in the hotel.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, food of good quality and choice, good location.
Would I stay here again ? Yes definately.

We stayed in a superior room for one night. Agree with past reviews that the hotel is dated. Will need some amount of renovation to spruce things up to be more appealing. However, they are beginning to renovate their premise starting with the cafe. The hotel rooms does not come with complimentary coffee or tea and without hot water too. Mineral water is provided though. Depending on one's expectations, the hotel is indeed generally OK given the amount charged per night which is not too high. It is centrally located near the Nana BTS Station that brings you to many places. However, on the Friday night we were there, the BTS Station at National Stadium that we take to bring us to Nana was really crowded to the hilt. Long queues at the ticketing machines and long queues at the counter to change notes for coins. The taxi stand at MBK is no comfort with equally long queues. Solution: Just walk down another station ie., Chit Lom and things are very much better. The two lanes that lead to and from the hotel have outlets for food and drink and one will be able to have your fill of food. Thai people are generally courteous and I believe it has to work both ways.
