Cheap, comfortable hotel in good location

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 18, 2011
I usually stay at the Silom City Hotel for the first few days of my Bangkok trips. This hotel is a good option for people who want a comfortable and cheap place for a few days in Bangkok in a location that is close to major tourist attractions without being right in the middle of everything. The staff are friendly and the breakfast buffet is pretty good, with both Western and Thai options that change frequently. There is also a nice albeit small outdoor garden on the ground floor. The rooms are somewhat dated but rather large and comfortable for the price. The hotel does not have a full-fledged restaurant. However, the Silom Village complex with its many tourist restaurants and a local Thai street food market are less than a 5 min walk away so there are plenty of food options in the immediate vicinity. The only negative is that the hotel is somewhat hidden in a Soi (side street) so the taxi driver may have trouble finding it. However, both Silom/Patpong and the river are only a 10 min, cheap taxi ride away from the hotel. There are also plenty of restaurants and other tourist-oriented shops within a 5-10 min walk.
Date of stay: August 2011
Room Tip: Try to get a room on the upper floors (better view).

Silom City Hotel made life so easy. (I have stayed in sooo many places, and there are just certain things you really come to appreciate). I was sincerely so thankful for the amazing customer service here !!!
The front door was opened for us, As we were checking in, we were greeted with chilled juice and an internet code.
Our bags were promptly brought up to the room for us
The room was very clean, the shower had excellent water pressure, the shampoo and shower gel provided were actually really nice and were in ceramic jars, the room had good air conditioning and provided a portable water heater with instant coffee, tea, and sugar. The mini bar was not overpriced at all (so we happily indulged in beer). We were able to check in to our upcoming flight form our room and then print out our boarding passes from their internet room by the front desk
Their breakfast buffet was really good - very nice selection: fresh fruit, Thai noodle soups, broccoli and oyster sauce, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, croissants, fresh coffee, etc. Good windows, you can people watch while you eat your breakfast in their cute dining area.
+Great location - a few steps from good coffee and delicious food
+Quiet - it is in a great and busy area, but you can walk into your clean hotel room and have total peace
+good air conditioning
+comfy pillows
+not that one travels to watch TV, but Silom City Hotel's channel selection was really good! (After an awesome day out we ended up watching two movies, good subtitles and no commercials)
+++really good price!!!
+(on a side note, Silom City Hotel is only about 2 blocks away from Silom City Village. I know it might be considered touristy for some peoples' tastes, but I thought the village was magical!!)
We had a really nice stay at Silom City Hotel, and we have been back, and will definitely be back again.

The hotel was on the average size but for the price it was okay. The hotel is located on the side street so can be tricky to find, however the hotel is close to shops and restaurants. The room is quite outdated but of decent size and clean.

The check in was easy and the people were very nice. I got the room for 2 nights, but only ended up staying one. At first I was happy with my choice. Only paid $35 a night. Ended up staying out with friends all night the first night. Second night I stayed in because it was pouring rain. I kept turning off the air because it was TOO COLD, then Too hot without it. Room service was good, not great, but the Coconut Chicken soup was very good. The neighbors that shared my connecting door came back and were extremely loud. I could hear them arguing about $$. I ended up building a tent out of my sheets to keep the air on, but me out of it. I had a terrible night of sleep and woke up to an extremely dry scratchy throat and a cold. When I got out of bed, my legs were COVERED with red bites. I realized then I got what I paid for and will opt to spend a little more for a better experience next time. I will not be back. The hotel is also down a side street so it can be difficult to find if your unfamiliar with the area. It was easy to walk to the other hotels that my friends were staying at.

Hotel is neat and small. Had to wait for an hour before check-in. We got free upgrade due to the wait. The rooms are small more so because we asked for an extra bed. The breakfast is just fine. Just the basics. Hope they increase the menu selection. Easy access to most places but the traffic is a killer.Tip: Avoid travel between 5- 7 in the evening

Well, that was my first time in Thailand (and to be honest I love this country despite whatever they say) - so it was 5 of us, me, my friend and the family friends with a 4-year old child. We chose the hotel online very quickly, as we had one day to head for Bangkok, last minute decision.

Good sides of the hotel were that:
-in the city centre (by this I mean that the Silom district is quite lively even at night time)
- close to the Night Market;
- has lots of places to eat nearby (Thai, Mcdonalds, KFC);
- you can easily travel to the Chinatown from there as well;
- has little street cart seller as well where they sell nice desserts;
- breakfast was rather good;
- staff understood English well;

However the hotel is a bit outdated in terms of furniture, and we had the worst view we could -it was back of the street+ there was building works going on.

Also one of the craziest thing we experienced was when we came back late at night, the guests in the next room were having a wild sex and it was too loud, so we couldn't sleep for hours. It's either the walls are very thin, or the hotel lets their guests take everyone in. I'm fine, cos I can busy myself with other things like listening to music, but my friend was a bit disappointed. Imagine if the family friends were staying in this room?!

Another surprise was when we returned after a walk in the evening and found out the room door was wide open, the Reception couldn't explain it though...

But if you don't care the noise (just relax|!) and surprises like open door, you'll enjoy your stay as its location is great!

Hope it will help you plan your trip to amazing Thailand!
