“Doing its part to reduce noise pollution”

The Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok is among the best hotels in the city for many reasons, one of which is that the hotel prohibits its security guards from using whistles when directing traffic to or from the busy main street and the side street on which the property is located.
Many other, less enlightened, Bangkok hotels, by contrast, require their traffic officers to use a whistle while directing traffic, which greatly increases the noise pollution in the city, and spoils guests' stays.

A stay at the Shangri-La will, consequently, be more relaxing than a stay at most other hotels in Bangkok, and is a vote for peace and quiet. No need for earplugs here!

Stayed three nights in Krungtep Wing, balcony room. Strong sense of exclusivity and personal, friendly service. Great service at poolside (except on the Sunday, where the waiter seemed a bit stretched), at reception and in the breakfast/afternoon tea area. In the Krung thep wing, most things are free - coffee and soft drinks at the pool, lovely afternoon tea, great breakfast (cooked to order, not a busy buffet), evening drinks. Nice touches like fresh mango served at pool. Rooms are a bit dated, and was missing a detachable shower, but liked the L'Occitane toiletries. Housekeeping was a bit slow, and rooms were one cleaned late afternoon. The only big disappointment was the balcony. Because one of the big bridges is next door, it was crazy noisy sitting out there. No noise in the room though, but we had booked this specifically because of the riverview balconies, so a shame. Not the hotel's fault, though. Would probably try another river hotel next time due to this - but would not be unhappy returning.

All the 5 star reviews are spot on.
This is 5 star treatment as you would expect!
Breakfast at Next2 is brilliant (the setting on the river edge is great too), the tea time snacks are enough as lunch and the predinner snacks and cocktails are enough as a dinner. We never seemed to stop eating! AND its all included! Its just brilliant.
I have been trying hard to thnik of something negative to say and the only thing I could come up with is that the water pressure in the shower was a bit week. Thats it!
The private pool is also a great place to rest and relax and it is so nice and quiet, unlike the main pool.
This is not a very helpful review! It was all just too good.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor to get a great view of the river.

My wife and I stayed in a suite (No. 1151) for 7 nights in October, 2012. We had previously stayed at The Hilton and the Peninsula but the Shangri la was a real surprise. The staff were fantastic and the amenities by staying in the Krunthep Wing made our stay more memorable. The dress code for evening cocktails was strictly enforced in a discreet manner(no shorts or flip flops). This is a good thing as a lot of Club floor lounges do not seem to wory what people wear. The range of food and presentation could not be faulted. The Wing we stayed in is 3-4 minutes from the railway and this makes it easier to travel up town. Anybody staying at this hotel should use the BMW sedans as the airport is quite a distance from town. The tarif at this hotel was the same as we paid for a 4 star hotel in Singapore.

Our hotel room overlooking the Chao Phraya was spacious and comfortable and we enjoyed watching the boat traffic on the river. The breakfast buffet is excellent and has a huge number of offerings. The only complaint I had during our four day stay was the spotty wifi service.

This is my favourite hotel in Bagkok. Excellent service with a smile, very comfortable rooms, amazing lobby with a bar and outstanding restaurants. My favourite on is located at the -1 level, just next to a swimming pool. You can find around 8 thematic food stations (Thai, Indian, Mongolian etc), plus a special one where you can order your food and see how it is prepared. Also this is not more than 5 minutes to walk from the hotel to State Tower with unforgettable rooftop bar ! So I'm sure than next time when I'll come to Bangkok I'll go again to Shangri-La !!!

We stayed here for 4 nights in early September, and would happily have stayed four weeks!! Situation of the hotel is excellent - a walk through the new wing of the hotel leads straight to both the ferry terminus and the skytrain station. Food was excellent - the best breakfast buffet I have EVER had - Thai, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Western ... you name it, it was there! We loved our rooms overlooking the Chao Phraya, sitting at night watching all the traffic up and down the river and all the lights of the city. The concierge service was excellent, suggesting very reasonably priced places to eat, explaining how to get to where we wanted (and writing the place names in Thai for our Taxi drivers!) and warning us of scams to beware of. Can't wait to go back!
