I checked into the Club floor and was given a smoking room after requesting on my reservation for a non-smoking room clearly. The person who brought me to the room just said it is not often used for smoking customers, which I am sure he was just covering up and did not want to change my room as it was on a smoking floor. Then I asked later and realized the hotel non-smoking rooms were not full and the hotel was not that busy.
Was not impressed by the lack of service in the hotel, my check in also took 25 minutes while I had to wait for the room which was at 5pm, there should have been rooms available.
I suggest better training of the staff on the club floor, far below standard of a Shangri-lan.

Room tip: Don't choose the club floor unless they improve the service.

If you want the best in surroundings and service stay here. This was my fifth stay and I am never disappointed. Eat out to save money. Use the hotels river boats fee to get around. I have stayed at hotels all over the world but I always return here.

The hotel is very central with the mono train 5 mins walk around the corner. Boat services within the same area. Tuk Tuk and Taxis Services on hand.

Great Hotel!

I had the pleasure of staying at the Shangri-la Krungthep wing for one night. I was attending a family wedding and therefore hardly spent time in the room, but I was most grateful for the comfortable bed, the well-laid out room and the lovely big bathroom! The adjoining TV room also provided a good place to wind-down after the festivities and before eventually hitting the bed! The hotel ballroom is huge and was the venue for the wedding reception/concert by Indian pop star, Sonu Nigam. The catering by the hotel was efficient and the food delicious.

The buffet breakfast the next morning was excellent with a wide range of vegetarian options. I loved the fresh glass of cha yen (Thai iced tea) that I sipped whilst overlooking the Chao Phraya river (which strangely, was the same lurid milky-orange colour as my tea!). A perk of the location is that there is an excellent foot reflexology parlour a minute walk from the lobby (on the right side) and street is also dotted with little tailoring shops for getting a quick item of clothing stitched.

The grounds of this hotel was beautiful and the aroma of the lobby was amazing. From check-in to check-out the staff was extremely courteous. The hotel also had a great location next to the chao phraya river. The chao phraya express was just a short walk from the hotel and provided easy and quick access to all the great historical sites. Also, on the side of the hotel there is a night market and several food stalls offering authentic varieties such as noodles, chicken and slushies. I would definitely suggest not eating on the property not only is the food OVERPRICED it is not as delicious and inexpensive as the restaurants that are found just a short walk from the hotel grounds.
