Granted that shangrila Bangkok is the first 5 star hotel we stayed in (5 star in other parts of the world are just too costly for us middle class casual holiday makers), the experience is simply amazing. Where do I start - 24 hour room service with a wide selection of culinary options are superb, on the first night we arrived we ordered pizza and soup at wee hour of the morning which were awesome quality, and another early morning at 5 we ordered breakfast due to having to leave at 6am for a tour. And interestingly the pineapple fried rice from room service were even better than the same dish served in their Thai restaurant :)

Room clean up seems to be done every time we leave the room even for 20 minutes, and morning paper selection wasa awesome too-they printed the paper from commercial sites when it's not available from local outlets.

The tours available from the concierge isn't huge though, and are generally costly private tours. However this isn't really an issue since we can always go to khao Shan rd and book any tour. Free river boat to asiatique is great too.

We stayed in balcony rooms with stunning view both directions of the river - simply breathtaking. Only cost a little over the standard room, highly highly recommended. Huge and well appointed shower and bath with full marble appointment. Free wifi and fruit basket is very thoughtful too.

Spa is at the expensive side, always visit a cheaper local massage if you r after value.

All in all I don't know hiw service can be improved over the exceptional quality of this hotel. Will love to go back again!

Room Tip: Ask for deluxe balcony room and skip the hotel spa.

For two - a great welcome and deluxe 2-3 nights stop over for Thailand or other Asian or Malaysian countries. Wonderful cuisine - busy and bustling - but with elegance.

Definitely worth a stay for the more discerning traveller - comfort, facilities and service all 5 star.

This hotel has a lot of positive points. It is in a fantastic location along the river, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the pool is one of the nicest I have seen. The staff are excellent - friendly and helpful - and the staff-guest ratio must be very high! Other reviewers have commented on the food and for good reason; the buffet breakfast is ridiculously good. But better than breakfast is the buffet dinner. It is not cheap by Thailand standards but spend the money and give it a try. The quality and variety of food is something else (go along even if you don't like the idea of a buffet - you will like this!). The Club Lounge (top floor with panoramic views of BKK) is great. If you are visiting for business as it is provides a quiet work space during the day and is suitable for meetings. In the evening they host a cocktail hour. I can't wait to stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: The one bedroom suites are great - very spacious. A view of the river is a must.

we will remember our stay with warmth in our hearts as the staff were so friendly and helpful like family not staff.

We stayed at this hotel on a stopoff prior to going to Krabi. Well located and superbly finished. Very central and easy to get to the Skytrain. Enormous choice for the breakfasts and if you prefer to eat away from the hotels plenty of good cheap local restaurents. Very good pool area, great to relax after a hard day walking around the sights. Had a room on the 21st floor, what amazing views fron ceiling to floor windows. Value medium, position great. views fantastic!!

No hesitation to go here again.

Room Tip: Higer floors give you better views over the city, but to be honest they are all good and recently re...

Having stayed at both Shangri-La The hotel.... 5 stars in every sense of the word, their breakfast is " outstanding" by any international measure. Shouldn't be missed. They have many choices, but their main restaurant is a win win. Could be top priced relative to other choices in the city, but well worth it. They have amazing offers, couldn't even have time to do their daily offer for free foot massage.it's not just a simple one, it's the best of the best, in their Spa. Very accessible to Sky train, and has balconies overlooking the river which is really refreshing in this unbearably busy city. Perfect for single, family, and couples. Very caring staff, and their concierge is top notch! I'd stay there any time.

Room Tip: Executive Room with a balcony overlooking the river with breakfast. Higher floor to be away from any...

This hotel is good in service and also the location itself, it's located near to the train station and the ferry station, but the best part is the view, you should try the room facing the river and bridge, the night view is awesome, seeing the ferry and the train from your room at night is not a view what you can see everyday.

Room Tip: rooms facing river and bridge are the best
