Our stay at the Ramada Plaza in Bangkok was above average - the service from all the staff was impeccable. The rooms were very plush and comfortable (we were upgraded to a plaza suite which helped). Free wifi in our room, efficient air conditioning, water delivered everyday, great buffet breakfast included in the room rate....I could go on & on.
Big plus is the free shuttle boat service to the Central pier which is where the Skytrain starts, so convenient! Even cold towels and ice cold water when you got on the boat...WOW!
Will go back :)

Enjoyed our weeks stay at the Ramada and more particularly its great riverside location. Always a bonus to have those river views on a longer stay in Bangkok.
Most impressed with our welcome to the hotel. An anniversary trip for us and most certainly the Ramada excelled in giving us flowers on arrival, wonderful room decorations and an anniversary cake – a lovely way to start our week in Bangkok.
Our room had the Riverview that we wanted, not up to 5 star standard but comfortable and well equipped. We were on a exceptionally good deal so could have been given an older room but must admit the pictures of the room on the website and what we received were just not the same. Carpet had seen better days, a brown stripe which was strange colour to have in a room. All the same we had no complaints, the staff were very friendly and helpful, front door staff and our cleaning lady – all really looked after us very well and that compensates for other minor issues.
The hotel has a shuttle to Central Pier on the half hour and on our return each day they gave us cool towels and a drink which we really appreciated. One had to obtain a return voucher from the doorman for each shuttle trip, guess that’s to stop other people using the Shuttle. Big landscaping going on while we were there in the Ramada pier area, will certainly be a picture when they finish.
Loved the pool and pool landscaping, a nice large pool, good for laps if that what you like. Was very quiet when we were there so had the pool to ourselves most of the time.
Our only complaint was the price of the hotel meals, we found them to be very expensive, would have liked to have had room service but the prices were red hot compared to other hotels we have stayed in Bangkok so just gave it a miss which is a shame. Can understand Western food being more expensive but the Asian menu, our preferred was equally expensive. The pool menu for lunch was the most reasonable we could find at the hotel and did enjoy the lunch special including a beer on our departure day.
The Ramada is in the best location for Asiatique, a wonderful new eating; shopping precinct located just down the road on the Riverfront and the Ramada has its own tuk-tuk service to the centre each night. It is an easy walk if you need the exercise but we found Tom – the Tuk Tuk driver such a nice young man that we utilised the service most nights. We found Asiatique to have excellent choice of eating areas, many at bargain prices but great food. Nice to also just wander around the many shops, great variety of merchandise, excellent prices here and nice shopping conditions – a not to be missed place to visit in Bangkok. Certainly drawing the crowds, mostly locals on our visits.
With Asiatique being so close and accessible we would most certainly return to the Ramada, think I might check out some other room’s next visit.

Our group was 3 adult kids and 2 parents. We wanted to be together, so booked a suite with one master bedroom, one two-bed bedroom, and a living room. The two beds were quite small, and the living room couch didn't have a pull out. We could have paid more for a roll away, but didn't want to spend the money. So we had three very cozy kids in the bedroom. We also had a lot of problems with the room air conditioning. One was faulty, and had to be repaired during our stay. Another was just underpowered and couldn't keep the room comfortable. The other major complaint we had on the room was the bathroom. For some reason I can still not comprehend, the bathrooms had windows... clear glass windows. They had shades, but turn the shades one way and people can still look in, turn them the other way, then at night the bathroom light shines on the people sleeping in bed. That wall really needs to be redone. Outside of the room, our only major complaint was the laundry service. We had a week's worth of laundry done for two people, and it cost $100. Shame on us for not adding up the numbers on the price sheet and converting to dollars beforehand, but that is absolutely ridiculous pricing. Despite all that, the Menam has one great thing going for it, the people. The staff took great care of us. The lead bell boy was our best resouce for a quick/fair tuk-tuk or longtail, and the concierge made sure we had a good car for day trips and the places we were headed were worth while visits. We'd consider staying here again, but we'd look around first to make sure somthing else didn't catch our eye.

I generally have low expectations of big international hotels in big international cities, but this is better than most. The rooms are a reasonable size, the food the usual bizarre clash of cultures but is actually very good. The pool is actually swimmable. The downsides are the usual unreliable expensive internet and the location. The riverside location is is a bit isolated but there's a free ferry service. If you want to abandon the hotel meal service, the local choice is largely limited to an average Indian and a local greasy spoon (which rapidly fills up with hotel refugees).

Room tip: Make sure you get the riverside.
