“Great Location to River”
Reviewed October 30, 2011

First time in Bangkok so it was refreshing to be greeted by the friendly staff with welcome drinks and then shown the rooms, how to operate everything, when breakfast is on and where ti was. Great service when you are tired after a long flight and arriving at 11pm at night.
Buffet breakfast was great with endless options and very courteous staff who showed you how it worked and helped you find your way around.
Concierge was good with her English and helped us understand the water ferry system so we could get to the attraction via the river the Hotel were on.
We would go there again.

Room Tip: Only need 600 Baht by Taxi from Airport

We stayed in the Ramada for a week in the last weeks of October during the flood crisis. Halfway through our stay a national holiday was declared and so I will report accurately on my stay but please bare these facts in mind when assessing this hotel.

When we checked in at three in the morning we were greeted by a few staff and checked in immediately along with cool towels and a lovely drink. During our stay all of the staff were exceptionally polite and friendly - in particular the pool staff.

The rooms: They are very spacious and our room was fitted with a bath, shower and monsoon shower. The air conditioner was adjustable and the beds were very soft and comfortable - a rarity in Thailand. Inside our room was a master switch by the bed to control all of the lights which was very handy. We didn't tend to wake till quite late but regardless of the time if we set our room to be cleaned then it would be done whereas in other hotels you have to be out by a certain time or it isn't done. Each night there is also a turn down service. We loved our room but over by the tea tray we frequently found ants. It was strange as it was only ever there we saw them.

The resort: there is a bakery selling breakfast Danishes for 35baht, cake for 85baht and slices of pie and such which is open till 9pm. There is a happy hour between 5-7 in the bar but please beware you can't take these out to the pool. We tried to order them at the pool and for some reason it was a strictly 'inside' offer. The restaurants have diverse menus and are reasonable in price.

Location: Around the actual resort there is very little to do or see but in contrary to what another reviewer said there is a convenience store literally two minuts walk away. It is a tops supermarket and sells drinks, snacks etc and that's in addition to the two 7/11's on the other side of the street. While we were there the boat was out of action but the hotel provided an hourly shuttle bus to the sky train instead which was very convenient. The sky train will then take you wherever you would like to go.

Due to the floods many people couldn't do what they initially planned to do in Bangkok and were restricted to the hotel. To compensate for this the hotel put on an Oktoberfest with a live band and so on. I thought this was a really sweet touch on their part and we appreciated the gesture.

On the whole we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would stay again.

Our family stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. 2 Adults, 2 children. We thought the hotel was fantastic! Great spot right on the river. We had two inter-connecting rooms with gorgeous views of pool/river/city. Great buffet breaky. Great staff!! Awesome unusual decor in hotel. Very clean and modern. Free shuttle boat to sky train station. The boat trip was very relaxing coming home after a big day in the hustle and bustle of the city. (The taxis in Bangkok are very cheap also.) Make sure you bring supplies for your room back with you though, as it's hard to find a convenience store close to the hotel. Can't fault this hotel. We didn't want to leave. Would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Make sure you get river view room.

Bangkok is the world's most competitive market for hotels (a 5 star hotel for under $100... wow) - either a hotel preforms or perishes -his hotel preforms. The Ramada Plaza Menam has it all --- a great price, good service, food, comfort level and it is on the river. I paid 1/4 of what the five star Shangri-la or Oriental charged and was please at what I got. Our room was clean and well outfitted with a river view. The breakfast buffet has a cornucopia of food. There is a free hotel boat to the Bangkok Transit System (BTS) or Skytrain. The downside is that the location is a bit out from the center of Bangkok and their a few restaurants around the hotel to choose from and the hotel is showing its age and needs a makeover with a new coat of paint. It is true that all hotel choices are relative according to your budget. If you have lots to spend then get one of the best luxury hotels in Bangkok, like the Shangri-la or Oriental, but if you’re on a reasonable budget then the Ramada will please you and your purse. Side note: via Tripadvisor I used Agoda and found an excellent promotion ($79 after the tax and surcharge). Strongly Recommended.

But hold on !

We happened to visit Bangkok as part of a large group on a business trip. The choice of the Ramada Plaza was indeed a nice one to say the least.

Having taken a late night flight out of Mumbai, we landed early morning in Bangkok. Once we settled down into the cosy and spacious rooms, we had to race for breakfast.

The breakfast was sumptuous.... the spread was wide and had a variety of all cuisines. Special care was taken to see that Indian items were available - so we had puris and parathas to choose from on different days.

Hospitality and servcie was impeccable; the staff would smile and warmly welcome you if you had a query or a request. The rooms were spacious and all amenities were decently provided with enough space for each. We also had a whole day workshop and later team building sessions in the auditorium. That is very large and spacious.. and connected by escalators from the lobby level. The conference went well and so did the team building sessions we had; thanks to the perfect accoustics the hall had.

And ya we did experience the Menam riverside.. there is a ferry the hotel runs so you could take the ferry, cross over and then use the rail connecting you to all major tourist locations. And otherwise, you could sit and relax watching small boats carry stuff for maketing troughout the day.

All in all a very ncie property, decently located and reasonaby well connected. The service was good and so was the stay.
