“Great Location”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

The Swiss Lodge is in one of the best locations in Bangkok. It is close to the Skytrain and MRT stations, great shopping and nightlife. The hotel itself is clean, staff are friendly and efficient and it is extremely good value for money. We will definitely stay there again. If you want a small hotel in a great location I would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: We were upgraded to a suite at no extra cost. This gave us a separate lounge and bedroom.

The hotel is a 'has been'... It was nice but decay has gotten hold of this property. There was wear and tear everywhere, some damages very visible. Good management would have picked up on this and done something about this.
The staff in the (except for us) empty restaurant was more interested in watching TV (we had to tell them to kill the sound) and chatting to collegues and mates than serving the guests.
Internet is not freely available, because we had booked via Asia Rooms....they wanted THB 450 for less than 24 hrs we would be there! We declined...
All in all this hotel is overpriced for what you get and not worth recommending.

I have lived in Pattaya now for 10 years and come to Bangkok every few months. I have been staying at the Swiss Lodge for many years and of course have been generally satisfied.

The location is terrific and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I now drive from Pattaya and it is great to have free parking at the hotel! The WiFi on my last trip was excellent with no problems at all and the bathrooms are very good indeed.

But I do have some serious issues:

• When the rooms were remodeled a few years ago the air conditioning was not upgraded. The controls are very old-fashioned and do not function well. The room is always too hot or too cold. A digital remote control has been the standard in hotel rooms for a number of years now and the Swiss Lodge should surely have upgraded.
• When the rooms were remodeled the new doors to the rooms were of the cheapest quality imaginable. They are very flimsy and poorly fitted (the attached photo shows a gap below the door which is large enough to allow my iPad to slip under!) When I stayed in this room last week I heard every sound from the hall: every other door opening and closing, every conversation, all cleaning by the maids.
• When the rooms were remodeled the windows were not changed as one would hope. If you stay on the street side the noise is continuous. A film was applied to the widows and was done so poorly that it is hard to see clearly outside (see photo). Why hasn’t this been fixed after all these months?
• The breakfasts have become much worse over the years. When I used to stay in other hotels in the City some 15 years ago I would often go to the Swiss Lodge for their wonderful Swiss buffet breakfasts. Now they are not very good. The attached photo is my “bacon” and eggs from last week. The chef used to make fresh pancakes to order; now they are on the steam table and not very good. The selection and the quality of the foods is much less than in the past.

I think the most important thing for a hotel guest is getting a good night’s rest. With the poorly fitting doors, the old-fashioned windows and the outdated air conditioning controls it is really hard to have a restful night. I am afraid I can no longer recommend this hotel.

We stayed here with two rooms - 5 people. The extra cot/bed that we requested wasn't the best, but sufficed for my youngest son (11). Otherwise the beds were nice and comfortable. Rooms were big enough. I wouldn't make this a destination hotel, but the location is great. We spent our days exploring Bangkok and seeing the sights, so this was perfect. Breakfast was good, eggs to order with a good selection of items on the buffet.

Pool isn't huge, but was good to cool off in, and for the kids to play in. Good temperature. Could use more lounge chairs, but we didn't have any problem getting a seat. It seems that most people that were staying here were doing what we did - heading out, and not hanging out at the hotel.

Good restaurants nearby, so no need to taxi out to dinner or lunch.

Our driver from the airport had a hard time finding it. I'd suggest that you have a map or have your driver call the hotel directly for directions.

Room Tip: Up off the mail floor would be best. 3rd floor has the pool - not a great pool, but enough to keep...

First day when I entered the hotel there was wood smell all over the room. Tried to close the curtains and one side fell off, so I pinned it myself. During my entire stay no one bothered to fix this. They never clean the room. The room which I stayed had ants and cockroaches. Carpets were unclean. They never cleared the dustbins. Expect the toilets nothing else was cleaned. They made the bed every day. For some reason they kept the water bottles in the bathroom. Empty bottles were not cleared. Mosquitoes in the breakfast halls. The beds were hard making it very difficult to have a comfortable sleep. If you try using the lifts, well you have to wait and wait and wait. Very good location, it has lots of hotels around this hotel. Night time the streets are flocked by the street food vendors. Station is within 2 mins walking distance. There is a massage place just outside he hotel. Cheap but not all that good.

Attending a meeting in this hotel was the reason for me to book it in the first place so for me the location was excellent. However the hotels location is anyway good if you are in the Silom-Sathorn area, with many restaurants and entertainment venues and near to the sky train. Beside a very friendly staff, a comfortable and clean room (with an old fashion style bathroom) and a good breakfast, nothing to complain.
