Review of Furama Silom
2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 17, 2011
We went and stayed at the Furama Silom last week. We were given a room on 7/F which is quite dark and feeling a bit wet. It was not the kind of room we expected. The furniture were very old. The toilet was small. We asked the Reception and they told us rooms from 1/F to 12/F were old ones and have not been renovated like those from 13/F and up. We asked for upgrade to a deluxe and need to pay HK$1,000 more for 4 nights. The reception showed us the deluxe room to make sure we are satisfied before making further payments. I think maybe there are different types of rooms below 13/F because when we passed one or two levels down from 13/F, it seems the condition was not as bad as those on 7/F. We have been told by the Four Seas Travel Agency that the hotel has a special offer of 1+1, ie paying 2 nights and you can stay for 4 nights but we were not being told about the condition of the room or about the different type of old and new rooms. That was not even a proper standard room to stay. The staff generally are helpful and friendly.
Date of stay: September 2011
Room Tip: Next time you stay at the Furama Silom, make sure they give you rooms from 13/F up and don't...

It was our first couple trip since my biys arrived 8 years ago. The service staff were fantastic and helpful. Asking for information about shopping and other details were easy as staff gave very good descriptions. we were upgraded with no extra cost....kekeke which was of course great! Furthermore, the room seemed to be newly renovated with a huge washroom, bathtub that overlook into the room. It is really for couples! LOVELY....

My partner and I booked the deluxe room after reading the good reviews listed here. Upon arrival however we were notified that there was no deluxe room available, I thought here goes our holiday.,,, I would have to start arguing with the front desk staffs. On the contrary, they straight away offered to upgrade our room for our whole length of stay with the same price we booked for. The front desk staffs were friendly and accommodating, that was a good first impression. The room was clean and bright, I have no complaint.

Breakfast was good and it compensated for the two disappointing dinner we had delivered to our room. The first night we ordered wonton noodle which was just bland (but the again it was only wonton) and a dish of duck noodle which tasted too much like a home food. The third night we had seabass and sadly the fish was not fresh, I ate 1/4 of the portion and still had to buy some medicine from the drug store to ease my stomach.

I was looking forward to enjoy the massage service that they proudly advertised in the room, but had difficulty communicating with the staffs down at the massage place. They barely speak a word of english, I had to ask the front desk to translate. The massage place didn't look as nice as I expected, at the end I decided not to try it.

Location wise is great, 10 minutes walking distance to BTS (the transport system) and around 15 - 20 minutes walking distance to Phat Pong.

Overall, I was pleased with the hotel and the staffs. Better be careful when ordering seafood though, hopefully they can upgrade their massage place and station at least 1 staff who can speak english.

There is a call center, so there are several places where you can get installed. I was in Silom, which is a tourist area which has access to BTS (metro). In Silom where this is known to Patpong street (where the fake bags and clothes look on the street and where there is prostitution).
I think it is a good area because you can easily take BTS or boat and move you in Bangkok.

The hotel was formerly the name of Single Silom, located just in front of the Sofitel Silom.
The travel between the airport and the hotel was done by train and BTS, is one cost about 120 BTH by people (plus the final taxi from the station to the hotel, 100 tbh) and takes about 40 minutes until the final season. The nearest station to the hotel is 5 minutes walk and is called Chong Nonsi. The displacement can also be done by taxi (taxi meter only, or with a meter) and usually costs about 400 BTH and takes about 35 minutes with little traffic or even one hour with great traffic.
In my case it paid off to go to BTS, because he had large suitcases and not all had a lift station.
Location: is good, near the BTS, near the Sofitel (some taxi driver did not know where is the hotel and is easier to give reference of the Sofitel). A 10-minute walk from Patpong.
Tip: for those who need to change money, I advise the bureau which is located outside the station BTS Chong Nonsi towards the hotel before the shopping plaza. Or for those who leave the hotel, turn right, follow straight on, pass the mall, and is the first major road turn right towards the BTS (Chong Nonsi) and walk another 200 meters and see to your right a house exchange. Despite not having very good looking, is the one that has a better exchange.

Rooms: I was an executive room on the 18th floor, with fairly large areas with a beautiful decoration, such as mini-bar and also had an lcd.
Price: it has a very good price for the quality it presents. It is a typical 4 stars
Facilities: Always clean and safe. It has a swimming pool on top of the hotel. It has a gym and sauna. There's free internet.

Tip: There is free internet in some cafes and restaurants in the vicinity.
Food: The breakfast is reasonable. Other meals can be made on the street or in any restaurant, but close by there is no special restaurant.
Animation: non-existent at the hotel. Outside the hotel there are some bars. Patpong is located about 10 minutes walk from the hotel, where every night there is a market with forged material (watches, clothes and bags) and of course the famous bars of ping pong ....
Staff: normal.
Travel: they set off on foot (if close) to tuck-tuck (the prices are very expensive) or taxi (prices are also expensive) or BTS boat. I advise the BTS and it is for the old town the boat. Because the tuck-tuck seems cheaper but they will always take you before you want to visit the local shops .... Or will take longer. Just taking a taxi cab in which they put the meter and meter to count the least deceived beings.
Tip: There is a daily BTS card, which costs 120 BTH, but only worth it to carry a lot of traveling. The average price of the trip is 30 BTH. Through the BTS you can not reach the old town, only to China Town
Shopping:
Most shopping centers are located in Siam. Here there are shops for all the bags until they can buy a Maserati or a lamborgini .... However, for those who have less money and are interested in buying the counterfeit material advise MBK (last exit of BTS - National Stadium). It is a 6-storey shopping mall, where you buy the iphone from bags, shorts, t-shirts. (I advise not to buy iphone and iphone because they are fake, not waste time. ... (3rd floor - technologies) Only the box is the same and the cover) Despite being a commercial center can haggle the price.
If you do not want to go to the mall, there is also a Silom night market in Patpong, there are people selling plastic bags, watches and some clothes (you can choose from a catalog). Prices vary depending on the quality of the forgery.
For those who have too much time in Bangkok, I advise you to go visit the largest Asian market - Chatuchak market which only operates on weekends from 10:00 to 17:00 and has about 15 000 stands, where everything is sold. The movement can be made there by bus, or BTS station (Mo Chi). The market is much confusion even with a map. You lose at least 4 hours to try to see a large market share.
Excursions: There are many options for every price range. The main ones are the floating market, Ayuthaya and temples (wut). Everywhere there are shops that deny the various tours. The low price also if you buy more than one.

Places to visit: The urge to spend the night Bayoke Sky Hotel. You can have dinner or just a drink on the floor 84 floor. To take just one cup has a cost of 250 BTH per person. (entrance with a drink)
In Bangkok there Wut different for everyone.
For staying in Silom, should not lose track of the river by boat to the old town, especially to the royal palace. When buying the boat ticket, they have two mode, but only disclose the daily ticket that has a cost of 150bth. It may not seem like much, but in reality is because, one trip only costs 30 BTH and were difficult to for more than two and at most 4. Just the ticket for only one boat trip, you wind up buying the boat and not on the ticket. To cross the border costs 6 BTH (if you buy a ticket everyday, this boat is not included, though they say everything is included)
When you reach the royal palace near the entrance, as though there are several doors, one is only for tourists, people will appear to say that the palace is closed to take you to another side. Do not go. The palace is open from 8:00 until 15:30, I think. The price to enter is BTH 400 per person.
Besides the palace that the Buddha lying BTH that pays 50 per person to cross the border and the other laughed this Wat (beautiful palace that pays 50 BTH). Then there are many more Wat to visit ....
I advise you also wish to visit the floating market, across the street from shops Vedema tours there. The price varies (200-250 BTH, but is the same), the only lead you to a nearby village, then you have to buy a ticket to go there by boat 300bth that costs more per person.
Who also want to go see the Ayuthaya (ancient capital of Thailand), but if the tour has already needs another day, because the floating market and Ayuthaya are only in the morning, then has to be different days. This tour costs an average 600bth already lunch (bus trip to and from the boat).
Plane ride back to 00:30 held by Swiss Air. The plane was very recent. House seat had a TV with several lines in numerous films and also had individual and collective games you could play against other people on the plane.
We chose this flight because we managed to get home the same day without having to spend the night at an airport in Europe

I was here in May 2011 for 4 nights, as a part of my honeymoon trip. I had read reviews from this site and are very true. The pictures which the hotel showed during bookings were exactly what we got. No cheating. Splendid location, hospitality, very well maintained - clean & tidy. At check in the attendants recognised Mehndi on my better half's hands and feet and immediately upgraded our facility and gave us a honeymoon suite without extra charges. Indian cuisine are available around this hotel. Would surely recommend all Indians who want to optimize the spending amount. Worth more than what we pay. Excellent holiday. There is also a swimming pool on the terrace at 20 th floor. Which is a once in a life time experience for me at least to swim at such a height. The thai restaurant is also very delicious in case if you want to try thai food.
