Review of Furama Silom
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 7, 2011
I was here in May 2011 for 4 nights, as a part of my honeymoon trip. I had read reviews from this site and are very true. The pictures which the hotel showed during bookings were exactly what we got. No cheating. Splendid location, hospitality, very well maintained - clean & tidy. At check in the attendants recognised Mehndi on my better half's hands and feet and immediately upgraded our facility and gave us a honeymoon suite without extra charges. Indian cuisine are available around this hotel. Would surely recommend all Indians who want to optimize the spending amount. Worth more than what we pay. Excellent holiday. There is also a swimming pool on the terrace at 20 th floor. Which is a once in a life time experience for me at least to swim at such a height. The thai restaurant is also very delicious in case if you want to try thai food.

This was an impromptu trip to Bangkok as a friend had a voucher to use at this hotel. After reading other Tripadvisor reviews about this hotel, I was half-dreading the stay in the hotel but it wasn't as bad as I'd imagined. Yes, it's next to a cemetery (you can see it out the window while awaiting the elevators) but there were no "incidences" to report; yes - they do recycle the bedroom slippers (disgusting!) but I was prepared after reading a fellow reviewer's report, so checked the unwrapped slippers when I got into the room and saw dark marks where the previous occupants' dirty feet had marked the slippers (both pairs!). The hotel would do better NOT to supply slippers than to recycle them and risk getting such negative comments. Breakfast was a 3/10 - same menu both days we were there but was included. There were some "unsavoury" guests who were prodding the bread rolls with their fingers to check how fresh they were so do give the rolls a miss!
On the plus side - large, clean rooms with aircon that actually works according to the temperatures you set them (not like those which you set to 15 deg C and still get 30 deg C!); very courteous staff who greet you every time they see you (I was greeted by 5 different staff as I walked across the lobby - embarrassing! but better than 5 who ignore you like you were invisible!); great location - about 10 mins walk from Chong Nonsi BTS station (the one that goes to MBK and Siam Square!); walking distance to the Chao Phraya River, 20 mins taxi ride to Platinum Mall (nice hotel guard will get a taxi for you while you wait in the cool lobby).
In summary, better than expected stay, but I'd probably stay somewhere else next time. Tip: Apparently this hotel is also known as Unico, and there's another one somewhere else in Bangkok, so print out the map of the Furama Silom (from their website) as the taxi from the airport didn't know where it was until I gave him the map.

newly renovated rooms but spacious toilet and bath... value included breakfast buffet which for the price we paid is not bad... small gym room just to sweat it out... location very accessible.. over-all good value for money we paid for the superior double room... on the downside, yes its beside a cementery and no security from the entrance to the rooms using the elevators so anyone from the streets can just go up in the rooms and knock on your doors...

After a day trip in Bangkok, we checked in the hotel at night.

The first thing I found out of this hotel is that they reuse the Slipper !! When I look at that 2 pairs of dirty slippers, I was speechless. Thought our friends were so lucky to get clean and new one. And the room is quiet dark, just not enough lighting. The room is newly renovated ONLY on bathroom and TV, but not the rest of the room, eg, the switches, beds, sofa, desk and deco are old one.

In the next morning, we when up the pool in the roof top and looking around. But so shock to find out that the Hotel is next to the Cemetery !!

Many years ago a journalist got me onto this hotel. It is great value for money, the roof terrace bar/restaurant is amazing- and has fantastic food. Service great. Internet over-priced. Location good. Breakfast wonderful! Book through Asia Rooms- will cost you half the price you would pay at the hotel, or through other web sites. Rooms are very large, but will admit, they are older- but still, you have a lounge, self contained very large room- great value!
