We stayed at the Grande Sukhumvit for 7 nights in September 2012. Both my partner and i travel a lot both for business and pleasure. This was a personal trip and what's great about the Westin chain is the consistency of the hotels throughout the various locations. We had an executive club room on a non-smoking floor, the room was a good size, comfortable and had all the facillities required for our stay. The room also included the club benefits which are worth every penny and i would highly recommend. The staff at the hotel made you feel very welcome and were always happy to help, nothing was ever too much trouble and they always have a smile on their face which is good to see in the current climate. The hotel is well located, right outside Asok BTS/MRT, with the Terminal 21 mall across the road, the traffic on Sukhumvit road is pretty bad during peak hours, so having the skytrain on the doorstep is great and a cheap option to get around Bangkok easily. The food was of a high standard, breakfast was vast with loads of choice for both asian and western tastes, as a club member you could either have it in the main Taste resturant or in the club lounge. All the canepes and cakes and other extras in the club lounge were delicious, and changed each day. During our stay we also ate at the Basil Thai resturant in the sister hotel (Sheraton Grande) which was exceptional, everything from the service to the food was fantastic and i would definatley recommend. The spa was the only real let down, not value for money and on the one occassion i was going to use they were a bit dis-orgainsed so cancelled in the end. Try the Urban Retreat or Healthland Spa, both only 5 mins away, under half the price and great range of treatments. Swimming Pool had just be refurbed and provided a good outdoor setting, Gym was fully equipt and even had some classes. In summary, we will definatley come back to this hotel on our next trip to bangkok, i think a lot of other hotels could benefit by taking a leaf out of the Westin's model!

It is great to read your feedback in relation to your stay this month. I’m delighted that you enjoyed everything we have to offer and the Westin experience. It’s great to read also that you took advantage of the Executive floor accommodation, and found it great value with the inclusions. Thank you too for the kind note on the team taking care in the Westin Executive Club. We have such a variety of things to do and dining options, and I am pleased you could also experience our sister Hotel, Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, and Basil restaurant. I will pass onto our Spa partner your comments, as the feedback is generally of a very high standard. Thank you for recommending us, and we do look forward to the opportunity to welcome you back.

Stay well,

1. Main advantage of hotel is it's location. This hotel is situated at heart of the downtown, just next to both Skytrain and metro stop as well as closer to Terminal 21 shopping mall. The main drawback of this place is in order to reach this place from various part of city by taxi, will take long time due to traffic congestion. The other detriment of this place is evening just outside the hotel compound you can see what Bangkok is famous for in the street, so if you travel with kids don't be embarrassed while walking in the street platform!

2. If you're Starwood member, there is separate floor for the stay (floor 16), quite, clean and complimentary mineral water available.

3. Due to lack of place both swimming pool and gym quite small for the 5 star hotel category. Surprisingly there is no Jacuzzi in this hotel? They have the Vareena Spa at 8th floor, which was quite expensive compared to other places but well trained staff treated well. Good Experience!

4. Everyday morning buffet available at Taste restaurant, almost same menu except few changes in the dishes, but still worth it.

5. Free Wifi available only at the lobby, at the room absolutely not . (there are many hotels surrounding this place offers free wifi at room as well).

6. Except the location, don't think so any other advantage staying in this property?

I have stayed at Westin Grande Sukhumvit countless times. There are always newer, bigger, "better" hotels than Westin Grande Sukhumvit but I still doggedly chose Westin despite my suppliers saying "there are bigger hotels XX and YY" Perhaps ... I like her location; steps away from the BTS station ASOK, steps away from Terminal 21, a new and hip mall filled with choice restaurants, supermarket, pharmacy, steps away from Robinsons and Top Supermarket, steps away from a good value foot masseur, steps from amenities like hairdresser, manicure, and for the brave hearted...delicious "real" Thai food stalls along the road. I have stayed at countless hotels in Bangkok during my business and leisure trips and none have matched the convenience Westin can provide.

Perhaps its the staff? Westin also boost a good staff team who seem to stay, the people at the door, the concierge, the front desk ladies, the spa team, the breakfast team, it feels like coming back to somewhere homely and comfortable. Some seem to recognize me, for the reasons I hope. The lobby is comfortably scented and breakfast has enough choice for a week's stay. There are quite a lot of parking available beside the hotel. All taxis know where Westin is. And its not that far off from the airport about 40-60mins, traffic is always a little unforgiving in Bangkok.

The rooms are similar sized to that of a 5 star hotel in Bangkok, the club floors are a little larger, separate shower and tub facilities, good bath amenities and the comfortable Westin Heavenly bed, comfy room slippers and bathrobe.

There is only a little grouse: the shower mixer is a little old. Well that does need some fixing.

That aside, Westin is still my first choice in Bangkok.

Room tip: If you like a bigger room ask for the higher floors, the spa is worth a visit.

Continue to return to this great hotel. Well located across road from Terminal 21 mall and monorail. Easy access to all parts of city including chatuchal markets. Rooms are well appointed. Great club level, although small in size which makes it busy at peak times. Bathrooms could be updated as showers often dont have water pressure. Still a favorite and great value for money

I recently completed a four nights stay at the Westin Grande on Sukhumvit in Bangkok. Let's start with the positive: the location is great, next to shppoing malls, restaurants, massage parlors / spas and the Asok sky train station. The hotel parking is free and the room service supplies free drinking water bottles and fresh fruit on a daily basis. A decent view over Bangkok and a large flat screen tv should also get a mentioning. All in all not bad.

However, the hotel appears a little old, the bath room do not have the fun features of good Asian hotels (e.g. Rain shower). The gym is very small, old and cramped at peak hours. The staff lacks charme and friendliness.

If you want a practical hotel in a good location, you will not get disapointed. When you expect the typical Asian touch (clear interior design, very attentive friendly staff, nice smells etc), then this can be a bit of a disappointment.

Many thanks for sharing your experience and for staying with us as an alternate to your usual Hotel! I am very pleased you found everything excellent, along with the location and staff. We are all a little different in some form being different brands in Starwood, but great you enjoyed the experience.

Kind regards,
