Banyan Tree Bangkok
Ranked #31 of 881 Hotels in Bangkok
Reviewed February 24, 2010

We were really excited about staying here as we had high expectations based on the reputation of the Banyan Tree and the pictures on the website. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the food offered for breakfast was of a high standard and the views stunning.

On the downside the pool was tiny and the spa facilities were mediocre. The steam room and sauna were in the changing room and were very small. The steam room could best be described as a sweaty ice-cream tub as it appeared to be made of plastic as opposed to stone or tile which would normally be used in upmarket spas.

Rooms were dated, and although they had good views there was little else to recommend them. The Vertigo restaurant and bar was overpriced and had the same issue as the hotel - that it was poor value compared to other options in Bangkok.

We won't stay here again, and it has put us off staying at any other Banyan Tree resorts in the future. For what we spent on one night at the Banyan tree we could have stayed 4 nights at the Holiday Inn Silom Road and have had a brighter, fresher room with similar facilities.

Dear LaineyNg,

Thank you for taking the time to write your review on Tripadvisor following your stay with us.

We were naturally disappointed to hear that certain aspects of your stay did not live up to your expectations.

I would like to clarify the comment regarding to the spa. The sauna and steam rooms are a part of the health club and not a spa facility nor located in the changing rooms. The spa, consisting of 16 treatment rooms, focuses on massage, bodywraps and scrubs as well as facial treatments.

In relation to the pool, the overall design of the building makes space a premium, therefore to create the open air pool on the 21st floor, with fantastic views of Bangkok, was an achievement. Not as large as the pools at our resorts, but sufficient for a city hotel.

In relation to the rooms, we have launched a number of new categories into the hotel inventory as of 1st January 2010 and will ensure our existing rooms are well maintained.

We respect your comments and are always looking to upgrade our facilities and improve our product. It would be a shame to judge Banyan Tree as a group based on one hotel experience.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to provide your valuable feedback and giving us this opportunity to clarify. I hope that you would give Banyan Tree a chance to regain your confidence and allow us to welcome you back in the future.

Yours sincerely,

Joseph Beck

we stayed at banyan tree during our honeymoon and after spending 7 excellent days at Nora buri in Koh samui.
We stayed at 46th floor in deluxe view suite. The room is absolutely depressing and quite worn out,
We had informed the hotel that we our going to stay there during our honeymoon despite that, we checked into our room around 11.30 in the morning after 5 hours of sightseeing we returned to the hotel for a hot bath and a nice sleep , just before we went into bed room service knocked the door to prepare the room and bed with flowers and complimentary fruits and wine. ( I couldn't understood the point as we had already
checked into our room 7 hours ago)
Swimming pool very small and only 12 sun-beds, if you are planning to order something from the bar while in the swimming pool , either call the reception from your mobile or pre order, as no one will show up to check if you need anything. banyan tree gallery shop is more a gallery than a shop, as most of the things we asked to purchase were out of stock.
vertigo is very expensive as almost anything in this hotel.
you have to take a cab for almost everywhere.
breakfast is excellent.

Dear valued guest,

I stayed in Bangkok in January 2010. I decided to spend few nights in Banyan Tree Hotel. I compared Banyan Tree to other hotels including Shangrila, Mariott, Lebua and it thrived.
Banyan Tree has excellent service and excellent food (breakfast included). People are pleased but accept your privacy. It is very luxury and meantime quiet hotel. It has all neccessary ammenities including fast internet connection for free. There is an amazing open bar " vertigo blue moon' on 59th floor - it is worth having few late evening drinks there (mojito is 10usd). Just drink & breathe. One of disadvantages might be location (it takes 5-10 min to get to the river (boat is a fastest way of travelling in Bangkok) but on the other hand you a 5-10 min from a night market Pat Pong that offers a great buys.

Book a prime room 50-55 floor offering amazing view over Bangkok.

there are cheaper hotels in Bangkok but if you want to taste world class luxury book Banyan Tree.

Our recent stay was impecable, the upgrade to the executive suite was a fantastic surprise. We loved the room with the huge double bath and the walk in shower. The dry cleaning service was fabulous. The buffet dinner was awsome...where do you start ! the food was so fabulous we took photos (sad i know !) We slept late after a long flight, my boyfriend suggested room service but i knew the buffet breakfast would be something else so dragged him to the buffet just in time and he was not dissapointed. The staff are so pleasant and nothing is too much trouble. We stayed in a different hotel in Bangkok on our way home which i deeply regretted as i would stay at the Banyantree in a heart beat. I have travelled the world extensively and the Banyantree is my favourite hotel in all the world.

We stayed for New Year and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was excellent spacious with views of the city. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The best part of the hotel is the roof top bar. We did not eat at the resturant so can't comment on the food. The only downside was it took sometime to make the cocktails, it is popular and they seemed short on staff but it's worth the wait. Enjoy.........
