I am a fan, a true fan of this hotel. I think the first time I stayed here was in the late 90s, and since then I have stayed here on and off for many years. This year I have stayed twice, most recently for four nights this past week. This hotel is like a grand lady who holds her grace, poise and style while many others come and go - I’m sure she will outlive most. They can build them taller, decorate them busier but there are not too many who will turn heads like this hotel does, and in the most unassuming stylish way. Those who work for her are proud and they show it in everything they do. I feel special when I stay here, like a welcomed friend returning home. Whatever you are doing Sukhothai, you are doing it very well. I compliment your staff who represent the essence of your hotel. You are as stunning as the first time I met you.

Hard to believe we were in the same hotel at about the same time as those who wrote about their negative experience at Sukhothai. Our first venture into Thailand and the hotel staff could not have been more pleasant, accommodating and eager to please. The rooms were quiet, pleasant, comfortable and well-appointed. Only criticism is that the room lighting was inadequate for us but maybe designed that way in the interests of serenity. The breakfast buffet was almost overwhelmingly fantastic and the staff could not have done more. We liked the Celadon so much that we went back twice. It's a great place and we certainly would recommend it to friends and colleagues.

A tranquil oasis in the bustle of Bangkok even during the FUN of Songkran.

Fortunate to have friends get a great group rate and enjoyed all the wonderful features of a very comfortable room, overlooking the courtyard. It was a pleasure to walk through the court yard and always enjoy the pleasure of stopping to pick up a fallen frangipani flower and enjoy its fragrance.

The breakfast buffet had an enormous selection to suit all tastes and if you desired anything else the staff would go out of their way to help you, ask and you will be surprised. For the 5 days of our stay we had the pleasure of always being greeted by Botan, who was always welcoming and very attentive to ensure we had the best breakfast possible.

With such a large selection, we ate far more than we would at home, endeavouring to sample the different cuisines available.

Found the location to be good, taxis are cheap for local to mid locations, found the BTS trains to be very good for further locations. The staff always ensured that they gave clear directions to the taxi drivers and ensured the metre was turned on and advised us what we should expect to pay.

Ensure you check with the concierge staff about your plans. Dome at the concierge desk was great in always guiding us with our enquiries and was able to advise us that one of our intended restaurant visits had actually closed recently.

No hesitation in recommending the Sukhothai as a great experience as it had been recommended to me. Every life should experience some 5 star luxury.

Did not use the spa facility so no rating, but confident it would rate just as high as the other services.

Big thanks to Botan, Dome and the other staff for a wonderful experience.

The hotel exudes a relaxing and refined ambiance and the rooms are beautifully furnished and decorated. Bathroom amenities are excellent.
The quality of service is not what it once was, however. The level of courtesy to guests has dropped. The quality of the the cuisine in the Celadon (Thai) restaurant is poor in relation to its very high price.
Service at the swimming pool is rather inefficient and the pool area seems dominated by the ugly skyscrapers around (including the Banyan Tree Hotel).

This was our 3rd time to this hotel and we experienced worst service ever. Lot of staff seems to have left this hotel and it clearly shows a big impact on the level of service this hotel was famous for... We couldn't catch hold of any manager who could resolve many issues we had during our 3 days stay. Hotel is nice but tired and need renovation. Quality of food at the restaurants is nothing to rave about. Thank God, finally we are checking out and moving to another hotel in the city.
Stay at your own risk !

Such great hospitality - nothing is too much for the staff at Sukhothai. Got upgraded to an executive suite which is huge. The bathroom is as big as the sitting room/bedroom. Nice view of the green courtyard. Some highlights:

Fancied some mangosteen and told the concierge who explained that the fruits were not in season but they would try and fine them. True enough, later that day, they delivered some to the room (and my friend's room too).

Huge spread for breakfast - spoiled for choice. The staff were happy to make whatever you fancy if they are not part of the buffet.

Had supper and lunch at the Thai restaurant (part of the hotel but different building) - best Pad Thai I've ever had in a very long time. The set menu for supper is extensive. Highly recommended.

Pool and gym are OK - nothing to shout about.

What sets it apart though is the service. Nothing is too much for them: check in staff, concierge, procurement team, breakfast team etc - everyone makes you feel rather special! If you're an AMEX member, use their Platinum Travel and FHR programme. A lot of benefits come with it.
