The Plaza Athenee is an absolutely beautiful hotel with a great pool and professional staff! Stayed twice this trip and would highly recommend booking a Royal Club room as they provide a better view and I feel are more comfortable than the deluxe rooms due to more space; with the couch making the room feel more homely. The shrimp Pad Thai that I had by the pool was beautifully done and the pool attendants were very quick, efficient, and friendly. Pool was very nice and pool furniture was very comfortable. The lobby felt very grand yet not snobby and the front desk and concierge were very accommodating and professional. Very nice for business or solo travelers that expect a certain level of service that's not "in your face" but attentive and efficient. I just felt very comfortable there. Beds were comfortable, gym and pool facilities were top notch, good food and drinks, and sincere service.
Outside the hotel, on Wireless Road, there's a little, local Thai restaurant, that was only open for lunch, that had some great food! Doesn't look very foreigner friendly on the outside as I passed by on my way to check-in from Phloen Chit sky train(BTS/closest stop) so I asked the front desk about it and was told only locals really go there; which in my mind means they only speak the local language and it's very authentic and delicious or it's delicious but dirty. Decided to try it out on my second stay there and found they have English menus, are very clean, and seems to be run by a very friendly, traditional Thai family, serving simple, delicious, home-cooking. But yes, knowing the local language would help a lot at that restaurant as they had a specials board that I'm sure where all the good stuff was listed. Packed during lunch... Highly recommended!

Room tip: Higher floor, club rooms offer more room and better view

Good location, assuming you want to be in the center of Bangkok. For a business traveller - gym, pool and breakfast spread are 4.5 stars standard. (although i can't completely understand why the french press coffee are always pressed by the time they arrived on my table). Rooms need updating as mentioned in other reviews e.g. air-conditioner was noisy. Housekeeping services can be improved a little. The week I was there - the lifts were under some sort of renovation and that translated to long waits during peak hours. Hope that is resolved quickly.

We loved our stay at the Plaza Athenee in Bangkok. The service was amazing from the doorman to the front desk clerks and especially the club lounge. We felt at home for our brief two nights stay. The hotel is beautiful! A short taxi ride will take you to popular shopping areas, wonderful restaurants and beautiful temples. I also suggest dinner at the in house restaurant Smooth Curry. The food was amazing, spicy and so flavorful! The staff attended to our needs as well as made great recommendations on dishes. I would suggest staying at this property for any length of a visit.

The Plaza Athenee hotel is a perfectly fine hotel located in a very convenient area one block from a skytrain BTS station and on the same street as the U.S. Embassy. There are great restaurants nearby and a 24 hour convenience store right across the street. The breakfast was spectacular-- a very large buffet offering really creative breakfast dishes, sushi, smoothies, dim sum, and plenty of fruit. Service was very good and the hotel had a nice pool that was open until 10 or 11 pm.

The rooms are beginning to show signs of age, and the bathroom could use a re-grouting and new showerhead. The hotel offered a few pieces of fresh fruit in the room on the first day, but unlike other 5 star hotels in town, the fruit basket wasn't refilled after check in. The gym was small and equipment was basic. The steam room and sauna were old and worn out. The most frustrating part of my stay was that the hotel didn't seem to have enough elevators. It took up to 10 minutes to wait for an elevator from the 17th floor to the lobby. There was often a line in the lobby as people had to wait for an elevator to reach their rooms.

There is nothing wrong with the Plaza Athenee, but Bangkok offers top notch accomodation and I have had better stays in competing hotels in the city. If the Plaza Athenee fixes its elevators and upgrades its rooms and fitness facility, it would put the hotel back on par with other five star hotels in the neighborhood.

The Plaza Athenee is the place I called home for my two weeks of stay alone in Bangkok. I have all my needs and requirements fully taken care by the passionate staff from the front office to the club lounge. I especially love my cool morning breakfast at the club lounge where I am pamper by the gracious service rendered by Mr Mono and his team Mr Tom, Ms Noi and Chef Yada.
The staff are all very graciously professional & multi lingual, sincere, attentive, friendly, patience and understanding. A great place with total care like home.

Room tip: The room are especially spacious and comfortaBLE.
