I've been to Bangkok several times, I stayed at the Narai hotel 3 times and 1 time at the Amari Atrium.
But this one beats all, when I arrived in Bangkok I was expecting an American hotel with American rooms and American standars, no Thai culture involved... but I was proven wrong.
The personal is very nice, they are friendly and speak pretty good English.
The rooms are spacious, very clean and the bed is very good.
The food is very good as well, the breakfast buffet was much better then expected, whilst eating the great breakfast you can sit outside next to the river, which is a great experience.
And the dinner buffet is really good as well, they have real Thai and Japanese cooks, preparing authentic meals.
The location is great as well, the hotel is next to the river and still is close to the city centre.
All with all, I would recommend this hotel to everyone who is travelling to Bangkok and is looking for some luxury!

Room Tip: Riverside rooms are well worth the money.

This was the first hotel we visited on our stay, and we were not disappointed, we had a lovely room with a river view on a high floor, we upgraded when we arrived, at first we thought we had mad a mistake, but then we saw the breakfasts in the morning- fabulous buffet offered here!, it really does cater for all, and plenty of choice. The hotel sits on the river, and offers a boat that is free down to the sky train, which is quite good fun!. We went to a market from here, was massive and a really good day! We tried tuk tuks, which are a must do! We also did a half day tour of some of the temples, this was definitely a must, you can't come here and not go and see some culture. If you come out of the hotel and turn left, you will find a shopping centre, and some markets for food, also the token McDonalds! (fantastic for cheap ice cream!), the hotel is very smart inside, and always very clean - our room was immaculate!. For a nice meal, exit the hotel to the right, walk a very sort way to the left turn by the statues, down here on the right is a Thai restaurant, which served some lovely fish tasting food, at a very good price, and was within easy reach!. The hotel boat and sky train is a must to try. Food at the hotel is a little costly, but are lots of options neaby if want to save the pennies - we used to hop on sky train and see where we ended up-little scary but worth it! Overall would recommend!

We have traveled to Thailand a number of times over the past ten years and have stayed at a number of hotels, This past July we again spent a week at the Royal Orchid after a few years and we found it to still be a great bargain for the price. The breakfast buffet is well worth the money. Rooms are always clean and all (I think) have a river view. Our only "sort of" complaint, they have added an emergency flashlight to the rooms (nice thought when you don't want to wake up your spouse) which could be better located near the bed rather than in the closet.

The best thing about this hotel is the location. It is a nice clean hotel but seems to cater to tour companies, so the experience is very impersonal. They keep trying to up sell you to upgrade your rooms and being starwood gold doesn't seem to help.

Here is the most disappointing experience for me, I booked using the spg website using cash + points. On checkout they converted the $30 cash portion to THB at some inflated rate but when I wanted to pay for it using USD, they would convert it to THB at a much lower rate, so what was supposed to be USD 30 + 1600 points on the spg website turned out to be $38 + 1600. Not a big deal in the big picture, but seemed borderline unethical to me.

Other than that, the hotel is in great condition and the rooms live up to the sheraton standards. The boat pickup is pretty cool as well.

Room Tip: Higher the better

Dear jenigiri,

Thank you for your stay and the review of our hotel. We are glad you liked the location, the rooms and the shuttle boat service.
I apologize for any inconvenience experienced during check out and ask if you can kindly contact me directly at assistant.rosh@sheraton.com so that I can clarify any apprehensions or misunderstandings in regards to calculations regarding conversion of foreign exchange. I have checked with our front desk associate and reviewed your bill and would like to highlight that you can also find the exchange rate used is printed on the receipt issued. Do let me know if I can assist in providing any more details so that I can follow up accordingly. We wish you safe travels.

While my stay here was several years ago now, friends tell me it is still the exquisite, incredibly clean and gracious oasis in which to retreat after a day of exploring Bangkok! The temples, the floating market, the flowers and shops and people are all grand.........but you will never regret choosing this hotel as your personal retreat!

Starting with the shuttle ferry from the light rail station, I was quite impressed. They offered us a wonderful eucalyptus-infused cold towel and a cup of drinking water. At the check-in counter, however, we were treated less than pleasant by an unfriendly front desk attendant who acted like she was above us.

As Platinum members, we were upgraded to a suite, which was nice and offered a pretty view of the city and river. The club lounge is also a nice touch, and we enjoyed the evening cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. We were, however, asked to go back to our room to change. No shorts and flip flops allowed in the club lounge during evening cocktails.

Overall, a nice hotel but staff could be trained to be more courteous (club lounge included). Of all of the nice Starwood hotels we stayed at during our entire Asia trip, this one offered the least pleasant service (too stuffy).

Although the location of this hotel is great since its on the river, the rooms and about everything else is pretty average. I stayed in a suite and that room was smaller than most double rooms. The food is pretty average and is a little on the expensive side. Even other hotel services are a bit expensive and they take their own sweet time to get everything that you ask for. A must try is the breakfast tho. You sit by the river and everytime i have been to this hotel and the breakfast has not disappointed. It even goes on till 11am so in case you wake up late, you still have a chance to make it.

Room Tip: Dont waste you money on a suite, its not that great trust me. Book a double room, its as good and if...
