If you are in Bangkok, just go there. Already the lobbby area makes you feel peaceful after all that noise and dust of Bangkok city. A fantastic flower arrangement and a flavour of lemongrass everywhere in that lobby area. The pool area is very nice with a good service. You definitely need to try the Spa which is on the other side of the Chao Phraya river (with a private hotel shuttle going there by boat at all times). Very peaceful Spa and very relaxing. The Sala Rim Naam restaurant ist just delicious. And a nice after-dinner cocktail on the terrace watching all those big ships passing by is a MUST... Rooms are nice.

The Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok, is a legendary hotel that revels in its 134-year-old legacy while flaunting a contemporary avatar. The rooms reveal a dipping sun on the Chao Phraya River through floor to ceiling windows and the location of the property is close to the four main Buddha statues in the vicinity .The Authors' Lounge and the Authors' Suites are tributes to the passages of Somerset Maugham, Noel Coward, Barbara Cartland and the like and Sala Rim Naam, the hotel's fine dining restaurant boasts almost 20 courses to the accompaniment of traditional dances and several refills of wine. If you want to rest your limbs where Boris Becker, Bill Clinton and Michael Schumacher did, this is just the place!

We spent New Years at the Oriental in Bangkok. One of the best New Years that my wife and I have ever had. The Buffet was outstanding and the taste to match, they had a band that played until 2a.m. and kept the people hoping, not only the young ones but the 50+ group.. Looking foward to next year!

Loved the Mandarin Oriental.
The Mandarin Oriental has two parts, the old and the new (and a restaurant on the other side of the river). The staff are professional, friendly and proactive.
We had a suite overlooking the river - the rooms are not modern design, but rather reflect an older more traditional style - which is elegant and understated.
The lobby was breathtaking with garlands of live flowers hanging from the ceiling and filling the air with an aroma of tuberose.
Restaurant buffet breakfast (or a la carte if you wish) is great - you will not be able to leave without having at least something you like.
Attended Thai Dance evening at restaurant across the river - the staff were courteous and attentive and the food was excellent.
Pool is least attractive, but still very good - rather large and more convention style (but when my son asked if they had goggles to lend him - these were offered immediately).
5* service that is in line with a 5* hotel.

From the moment you enter the hotel until the day of your last visit, you are treated like royalty. The hotel is gorgeous and sits on the Chao Praya River. The rooms are beautiful and the views are awesome. The hotel staff and restaurants are top shelf and the Spa is to die for. We were three women traveling on our own, and the concierage couldn't be better about guiding us to boats, tuks tuks and private drivers, setting us up with restaurant reservations and any other help we needed. I would return in a heartbeat.

One of my favorite, if not the favorite, hotels in the world. Big enough to offer every amenity possible, but small enough that you don't feel touristy. Perfect rooms, delightful staff, wonderful location on the river. Private butler service quietly took care of every need, real or perceived! The boat ride to the spa across the river makes ever trip feel like a mini-vacation. The squash courts are a fantastic treat, and the spa is superb. We found a morning to take advantage of the Thai Cooking School which was WONDERFUL!
