“Classy and traditional”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

Mandarin Oriental is a 5 stars hotel located in Bangkok, and I had the pleasure to stay here a while back. I was immediately impressed by the outlook of this hotel and by the amazing decorations. Every room here is huge and perfectly clean, and it is very luxuriously decorated. The furniture is extremely classy and traditional, and the vibe of this hotel is very fancy, yet comfortable. As we expected, the service here was also flawless, and the staff really made us feel welcomed. Overall, our stay here was amazing, and we felt very special while we were checked in at this hotel.

I had the luxury of getting to stay at this hotel on a recent business trip to Bangkok. Before arriving, I was told that was one of the top rated hotels in the world. Once there, it was easy to see why. The staff was so very helpful and pleasant, the hotel is beautiful. A bit of an oasis in the middle of a big city. It was fairly easy to get from the hotel to downtown with the small boat to the sky train and then a quick 15 minute sky train ride to the office. It was also easy to head out for sightseeing by taking the orange flag boats from Oriental Pier right next door. The hotel provided a very good spot for relaxation after a day of work. The only thing, if anything to remark, was that at times the staff was a bit too attentive. Being alone, I was often asked 5-6 times during my breakfast and dinner if everything is OK, or if I need anything more. Asking me 2 times is plenty. Finally, while the breakfast buffet was great, it is the most expensive buffet I have ever experienced, and I would highly advise to just order a la carte from the menu.

Room Tip: Get rooms with a view of the river. Side view if perfectly fine.

We stayed here for two nights before leaving Thailand and this hotel is an oasis from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. The service is over the top and the staff are extremely helpful, almost too much so (a young man wanted desperately to set the controls in the treadmill for me). Poolside you can expect a constant stream if freebies and treats as you recline amongst a grove if tropical trees and plants.

We had a late night flight before we left and the hotel arranged for complimentary late checkout and use of the pool and a suite after to shower and change before we left the hotel for the airport, all complimentary. You really feel like you get value at this hotel, despite the daily rates.

Had a fantastic 2 nights stay with my friend!
We both work(ed) for MO at different properties, so we were excited to finally be the guests and experience the exceptional guest service for ourselves.

The location at the Chao Phraya river is beautiful, in a quiet area with many other luxury hotels around.
The porters and concierges wear historic traditional uniforms, it's the first great impression you get at arrival and they did an excellent job with our luggages, opening the doors and calling taxis for us (they would always give us a slip of paper with hotel address and destination written on, so we felt safe). One of them even walked us to the ATM machine close by.
The grand lobby has super high ceilings and beautiful exotic decor.
The check-in and check-out procedures were a little bit slow, but the welcome was very friendly.
Our room had a balcony with partial river view and big comfy King size bed. We had all amenities we needed and the tea selection was superb. We received a welcome drink and snack and beautiful flower garlands, as well as daily fresh fruits.
The wifi was very expensive though, I was a bit shocked by the price.
The bathroom was spacious, however, the shower and toilet were in a seperate room which had one glass wall and the shutter didn't shut properly, so one could see inside from the bed area and it was not sound proof. It was a quite intimate situation, but we took it with humor and just turned the TV on when one of us used "the throne".
We also had the chance to look at some suites on the higher floors with full riverview and they are really luxurious. And wow what a stunning view, it must be even better at night!

The prices at the restaurants are quite high, maybe 10 times more than a regular Thai restaurant would charge for Pad Thai and Satay, but it was late and we didn't want to go out, so we went to "the Verandah" right at the river. The food and service were great!
The hotel's own boat service was very convenient and for free. Not to mention how beautiful it was to sit there at dusk when the sun sets behind you and all the lights come on.
They will take you just to the main dock and back to the hotel, so if you want to go up and down the river, there is a dock for water taxis next to the hotel.
I did not use the Spa on the other side of the river, but my friend joined the free yoga lesson at 7am and she liked it.
The pool was refreshing and the Cabanas were comfy.
I would stay there again if I had the funds!

The Oriental Bangkok is old and it shows. Rooms have great views (especially the ones in the original Garden Wing), but they are tired and don't have the modern facilities of new 5-star hotels, or the refurbished Mandarin HK - the other original member of the Mandarin Oriental chain. The gym is inconveniently located on the other side of the river. However, what characterizes the Oriental is its impeccable service - one of the best in the world! The massages at the Oriental Spa are also one notch higher than elsewhere. There are many restaurants, all good but none superb.

Not the most expensive hotel in Bangkok but certainly the most luxurious.

The staff were a delight to meet and no request was too much, they always managed to fulfill our every request with a smile and a kind word.

The front of house team were able to assist us with information and directions when needed.

The on floor butler was always available to meet any of our requests at any time and she ensured that our room was always serviced when required.

The staff at the Spa ensured that our treatments were relaxing and rejuvenating.

The time we spent in the Health Club was not only enjoyable but also allowed me to justify my over indulgence at the sumptuous breakfast that I enjoyed each morning. The Yoga classes set the mood for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: All rooms have a river view

No wonder this Hotel has been in the top of every hotel list for so long, it's in a class by itself. The have 7 restaurants and each one is outstanding. French, Thai, Chinese, you name it, fabulous. Their Rooms are impeccable, great beds and pillows. Thai Silk bed spreads to die for. Fresh fruits and Thai Tea every morning, compliment the experience. They place outside your door A a very small stick standing, it's hard to notice but not to their staff, when the stick is not standing it means you left the room and they go in to refresh it, if you do that 10 times a day, that's how many times they go in. I cannot rave enough, it's a must if you go to Thailand.

Room Tip: Don't miss the Thai Massages!
