Montien Hotel Bangkok

What I like most about this hotel is their friendly staff. The bell man in Thai costume greeted well every guests who come to the main entrance. One bell hop staff by the name "Toki" is friendly, helpful and can speak good English. The building is quite outdated and rooms need to be renovated. They still use door keys that need to be dropped in the key-drop area at the reception desk. Wi-fi charges should have just been included in the room package. Function room for meetings are basically ok. Food for lunch offered during our seminar at Montienthip Function Room were delicious and have many varieties to choose from. hotel is conveniently located. it is close to Patpong Night Market and a Thai temple included in city tour of most travel agents. BTS train station is about 15-minutes walk. There are lots of food outlets, 7-11 stores, and money changers surrounding the hotel.

We arrived at the Montien after 10 days at a lovely resort in Phukett - I was expecting a basic hotel, however I was pleasantly surprised by the dated, but lovely Montien. We had a family room - they had to bring a roller bed up as it only had three beds, but this was no problem. The room was large and really comfortable and the bathroom was good too (although best to be a short statured person for the shower head which is set quite low!!) and shampoo, lotions etc provided.
We had booked a couple of tours from the hotel and enjoyed pick up and drop off from Montien. On our second tour, as we were the only ones on the bus, our tour guide dropped us off at MBK (awesome shopping!) after the tour was completed - very handy!
The location of the Montien is superb - literally across the road from the Patpong night markets where there are also a number of restaurants, mini marts, massage places, girlie bars and a pulsating kind of atmosphere - beer at the Happy Garden Bar tastes good too...
Breakfast was great - so much variety (and good coffee!) and plenty of staff there to assist as required. We flew out early on our day of departure, and we ate breakfast at 4.30am - no problems, the buffet was all set up and I enjoyed my last bowl of Thai toasted muesli - delicious!

I would certainly recommend the Montien and would return on my next trip to Thailand - central, clean, courteous staff and a nice vibe!!

You will find a classic hotel with some horror atmosphere. But the room is comfortable. They still use manual key. Great breakfast. They provide sushi, dim sum, etc. It's difficult to find employees who can speak english, but it's fine.

Oddly situated - not close to river or main shopping area. Bit dated now as well, but great buffet breakfast. Staff really pushed the thai kick-boxing which is also average. Good value for money, but needs some renovating / updating.

I like the Montien quite a lot. It's a fun blend of East and West and has been for over 40 years, but then again, I like old hotels. It's within easy walking distance of Patpong night market and across from Chulalongkorn Hospital (where one might need to go for a variety of reasons after a visit to Patpong). It's true there are plenty of cheaper hotels and hostels in the area, but The Montien is quite affordable when one considers the location, amenities, service and price.

Travel on the cheap can be its own reward, but stay at The Montien just once, if for no other reason than the enjoyment of the strong, hot coffee in the morning while you admire the room and think of days gone by.

I travelled with my friends who are a married couple, we were staying in Koh Samui for a friends
wedding for 3 nights then Phuket for 4 nights. Our 1 night in Bangkok was spent at Montien Hotel.

Initial impression was great - the hotel was big, lobby was beautiful. Yes some might say it's outdated and I think in it's hey day it would've been the place to be. But it was clean and comfortable, the staff were friendly and helpful, and it was in a good location.

We didn't get a chance to eat the breakfast as we accidentally slept in! But all in all, a good stay.

The only thing I could fault was there were three single beds instead of a double and a single, but my friends didn't seem to mind. And the key was an old style key and with three of us it would've been nice to have a key each but this was not possible.

Ratsack was a hoot! I'd recommend this place as a short stopover to anyone.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 7th floor and enjoyed it. No disruptions, all fine.
