“Last nights in Thailand”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

Spent 2 night there on our way home from Koh Samui.

Room was great, breakfast is to die for... Everyone is so nice.

Had the best Chinese food ever just up the road... Karen even ate rice ( she usually can stand it )

It was Chinese New Year, so it was very very busy, a bit too busy for us, but what an experience

Worst location in Bangkok!Hotel very dated, and a smell of old fish in coridors. The rooftop pool is green and slimey. The bed had only a sheet old, thin blanket and a sheet on top of that, very shabby.Area around hotel horrible and dirty with a terrible smell. The people in the shops wete also very unfriendly and not willing to help you at all.The hotel staff were quick to organize you a taxi at "special rate" Only for you to find out later that they charged you double the tarif.

The grand china is a hotel which probably once was state of the art but never got renovated. We stayed on the 19th floor and some of the windowds where so dirty on the outside i couldn't even look through them. Room size was good, quite spacious. But everything is just really old and a bit dirty, cracks in the walls etc. It really need a renovation.

Internet is only for free in the lobby, but you can order really slow internet on the rooms for a charge...

I wouldn't voluntary go back here, everything just feels outdated and old. The employees were nice and friendly.

We stayed at this hotel for three nights in February. It is located in Chinatown just a 10 minute walk to the river and ferry station. Our room was on the 22nd floor on a corner which afforded us superb views of the city, river and the local temples. It was a large room and very comfortable. Breakfast was well organised and catered for every taste. Staff were always busy clearing and setting up tables at busy times. The hotel is in a great position for meandering through Chinatown and there is a good choice of food at all of the stalls in the area. There are numerous restaurants too. There is a tour desk in the hotel but we chose to book our tours at the Imperial Palace Ferry Station and we found that we could do these much cheaper in this way. The ferry is an excellent way to travel avoiding the heat and pollution of Bangkok. Tuk- tuk rides are an experience but do negotiate a price beforehand!!

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor room facing the river.

Although the hotel is now a little tired I can't fault the staff and service. Everyone was so helpful and attentive. The room itself was showing signs of fatigue but was very spacious, well equipped and had the most stunning view over Bangkok.
The breakfast was very good and had a vast choice in true Thai style. The panoramic bar was very pleasant and great for an evening cocktail before venturing into Chinatown.
For me the location was perfect and but for the fatigued appearance of the rooms that I viewed I would not hesitate to rate the hotel "Very Good". Prices were average and I even managed to negotiate the room rate.

Room Tip: Get a room on the 21 st Floor and enjoy the view. My last room even had a balcony which was great!

This is our 2nd stay at the Grand China Hotel in Chinatown Bangkok and we have found it again a hotel with great service. The hotel is showing its age with rooms and some areas needing a spruce up, but the location for good food and low cost market shopping is ideal. Our stay co-insided with Chinese New Year which was an added bonus with Yaowarat Rd closed with hundreds of market stalls. The only downside was this caused traffic chaos. The rooms are a good size with views from all. The 20th floor pool gives some teriffic views of Bangkok. The breakfast menu is broad catering for nearly all nationalities. If you want to see the hustle bustle of Bangkok then this is the place to stay.

Room Tip: Room facing Yaowarat Rd give the best views. Although have great size windows comes at a cost if you...
