“Old but great”
Reviewed June 28, 2011

Grand China Princess was once a Queen. We stay every year at this great value hotel.Service is what keeps us coming back.Want another pillow? Need a button sewn on?Polish your shoes?,nothing too much trouble. Typical of the older hotels it has big rooms with high ceilings.Decor is outdated chinese style but well looked after.Over the last few years there seems to have been a lot of revamping of the bathrooms so they can offer us a standing shower that doesn't require clambering over the edge of a deep bath to get in and out of.Great as you get on in years, so worth requesting.Good selection of Asian and Interntional food at breakfast and they do the best shrimp cakes we've tasted in the coffee shop on the 10th floor.Great REVOLVING restaurant is worth visting to enjoy the magnificent views at night over the Bangkok skyline. There is a cafe near the lobby that sells food and drinks and a selection of food outlets in a small adjoining arcade. We particularly enjoy sitting out on the street facing verandah of the small bar and watching the madness of traffic Bangkok style.(How many large boxes can you fit onto 1 aging scooter?)The hotel is in the middle of China Town and some great shopping.Over the years we have met many travellers who have been unaware of the laneways full of merchants selling everything you could think of ,so would suggest that you ask at the hotel desk for directions. This is a good value hotel for the price in a very interesting part of old Bangkok.

I always stay in this hotel and they always give excellent service. A service with a smile! The rates are very affordable and it comes with free buffet breakfast. The breakfast itself is worth the price of the hotel. It has american style bacon eggs and the like plus Chinese style fare like congee with all the trimmings I (i highly recommend the chinese sausage). They also have gym facilities you can use and thai massage services if you get tired from shopping.
Outside the hotel is chinatown, which is right across the street. You can take walks outside at night and eat at the various stalls they set up. (you can see a lot of locals eating). You can even pick fresh seafood and have it cooked your way. Fruits are found all throughout the streets of Yao warat. (try the one pineapple and enything in season- always very sweet). Most stall sell a lot of wholesale accessories (just walk across the street or ask the bell hop to point it out)- necklaces, bangles, belts at very low prices (you can see more expensive ones in the MBK shopping area) since this is where most retailers get their goods.
There is also a quaint coffee shop at the 2nd floor. It had pretty good PAD THAI

I've stayed at the Grand China Princess about 6 or so times and really like it. Great location smack in the middle of China Town (important in Bangkok), easy access to computers. Front staff were helpful. Post office across the street. The rooms are nothing special (good standard rooms but a bit bigger than usual). I'm over the 5 stars especially when you're on business and want a clean, safe room in a good location, so happy to recommend this one to others, but not as a resort or as a romantic get away. Their Japanese restaurant on the top floor was very good (It's a revolving restaurant, not a revolting restaurant--ha ha sick sense of humour)....great food really.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor, quiet room seems to work.

I don't know where the positive reviews came from but this is hotel is abysmal.
We booked online with Agoda for a 2 night stay in a De Luxe room
What we got was far off from that description. No resemblance to the photos advertised.
Dirty fingerprints and dust on all doors- wardrobes, bathroom doors etc
Filthy, thick layer of dust hanging from the air conditioning vent.
Spider webs in the corners and window frames.
Cup ring stains evident on bedside table.
I could go on.
It was approx 1am when we arrived, my partner said not to to make a fuss and to put it down to experience.

We loved this hotel, it's quite hard to find and when you step inside it's half shopping mall half hotel. The bar on the ground floor is great for watching the madness unfold on the crossroads outside and wonder how no one ever hits anyone else! If you ask for a smoking room you should get a room with a balcony which for us was on the 3rd highest floor with rooms views are amazing. Rooms are large, clean and comfortable. Small splash pool on the roof. Not that good but again wonderful views. Will go back here even if it's just so we can eat more of the street food on your doorstep on an evening. The Chinese across the road has good food but compared to everywhere else we ate was way overpriced, as much as you would pay in the Uk!

My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights after spending time in Patong. The hotel is in a great location, the rooms very spacious and very clean. Upon entering, the hotel is very well presented and the staff very friendly.

There were always cabs and tuk tuks out the front and it was only 150 baht to places like patpong markets and mbk.

We were on a high floor and the views of Bangkok were amazing! The lower floors of the hotel are like a mini shopping complex with tailors (where arent there tailors...?!) and places to eat.

I would definetely stay here again and recommend it to all.
