“A slick appearance, which hides a mediocre operation”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2013

The Dusit Princess presents a slick appearance, which hides a mediocre operation.

The room on the 2nd floor was spacious, as was the bathroom - but there were stains on the carpet. When we looked out the window, we were looking onto a roof (I know someone has to - but it was littered with cigarette stubs - most places in Thailand do not allow smoking indoors, even in your own room!) When I complained, they sent a maid & handyman - who just shrugged when shown the butts outside the tall window (which did open!)

The light in the spacious bathroom was brighter than any other place we stayed - though still not good enough for perefct makeup/shaving!

When we went to breakfast while waiting for our early room, we ordered a la carte. It turns out that beverage refills are free, even on my husband's latte!

We went to dinner in The Chinese restaurant. The language barrier made it very difficult to understand the 5 different styles of "Peking Duck" that were on the menu. The manager tried her best and was very attentive (of course we were the only ones there).

I asked the desk for a 1:30am wake-up-call - the gal made a note. The call came at 2am!! (Fortunately I had noted this problem in reviews of several hotals in Thailand, and was using it as a back-up alarm, having set our own travel alarm). When commenting on it, the man merely said "Sorry, Madame" and hung up.

Also be aware, if you want an early check-in (we had taken the night train from Chiang Mai) - if it is available, they will charge you 1/2 the rack rate! (This seems to be pretty typical - as well as for a late check-out!)

It was pretty handy for a quick trip to the airport for our 6am flight home, but I wouldn't stay here again except for a last night stay!

Tip: If you turn left out of the hotel and cross the street (heavy traffic, no light), there is a shopping mall - huge - four floors. Lots of places to eat - including McDonalds and a Starbucks.

Dear Ms_Gary,

Let us first begin by thanking you for giving our hotel high scores on our location and the room. Many of our guests also find it is very convenient that our hotel is located next the shopping mall where many shops and restaurants are easy to find.

While we appreciated your candid opinions on several issues of our products and services, we are disappointed that our staff could not delight you with their genuine hospitalities. We will continue to provide more training to our staff in this area.

We would like to apologize for the cigarette stubs littering on the rooftop outside your room. Our Housekeeping team has been reminded to pay more attention to sweep this area. We could only wish for our smoker guests to abide by the restricted smoking areas of the hotel and only litter in the smoking bin provide. We are sorry for this unsightly view outside the window, it is indeed not pleasant.

With your comment on the describing of Peking Duck’s cooking style, the staff of our Chinese restaurant will undergo an intensive training so that they would be more well-versed when our guests make the enquiries about the particular dishes. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and for praising our staff for the attentiveness.

We sincerely wish to apologize for the delayed wake up call and had instructed the Front Office team to rectify this shortfall and ensure the punctuality of this service.

Regarding the charge for early arrival, we will remind our staff to notify the guest who provides us with the information about their early arrival that a certain charge will be applied for early use of room before the standard check in time of 14.00 hrs.

Last but not least - we are grateful for your valuable opinions and will continue to work on the improvements in the areas you have highlighted to us.

With kind regards,

Satchaphan Phakdeesiri (Mr.)

I stayed a night at the hotel to prepare my friends' wedding ceremony. Staffs are very nice and have lots of serviced mind. My room at 2nd floor is very clean and full of facilities with its suitable size, large bathroom with tub. Towels and beds are clean and good smell. Air-conditioner is good cold in public area, but not work well in the room surprisingly.

About traffic on Sri Nakarin road in front of the hotel, is very jam in morning and evening. But we can walk 3 minutes to the one biggest Department store in Bangkok, Seacon Square.

Dear Khun Thaagoon,

It gives us a great pleasure to read the review about your recent stay at our hotel. Thank you for complimenting on our staff’s performance - they are truly our great asset. While we are glad to learn that you are impressed with our product, we would like to sincerely apologize for the functioning of the Air-conditioner in the room. Our Engineering team has been instructed to rectify this issue immediately. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

There seems to be a good progress on the construction of Srinakarin road surface upgrade. As much as we hope for the speedy completion of this work, we are sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate you bearing with us.

Once again, thank you for sharing your review. We will be looking forward to your return in the near future.

I stayed in an Executive Suite that offered the normal immenities. The room was large and quiet, the bathroom was well equipped. The service was great, which I found to be quite typical in Thailand. The hotel is across the street from a very large mall. It has plenty of places to eat and shop. We walked around a bit at night and I felt very safe. We had drinks and enjoyed their massive buffet.

Room Tip: plan a little extra time for breakfast - the buffet is 5 stars

Stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. The location is near to 2 shopping centers, but need to take taxi to the nearest BTS station. The services are excelent & hotel room also clean and nice, however I don't see much Thai decor in the hotel. They also need to improve the variety of the menu (especially for the Thai food).

Room Tip: there are no good city view or river view for this hotel, my suggestion is to choose the pool view r...

Dear Rio_Rusli,

Thank you for sharing your recent staying experience at our hotel. I am delighted to learn that you find our staff’s service excellent. I shall pass on your compliment about the room cleanliness to our Housekeeping team. There is nothing more refreshing than hearing from the guest that our staff has done a good job.

Your opinion on the variety of our menu is well noted. Our F&B and Culinary team are working on the improvement of our menu choices, in particular for our Thai dishes. We will also look into adding some decorative artifacts to our public areas while reminding our staff to always wear a Thai smile – the signature of Thai hospitality.

Once again, thank you for your opinion. It is valuable for us in the effort to delight our guests in every possible way. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

With warmest regards,

Stayed in the Dusit for two nights and have no real complaints. Facilities at the hotel are good - room was on the 6th floor and was off a good size, the bed was comfortable and the pool looked good (although never went into it). Food in the main cafe was excellent - buffet style with an excellent selection of food for breakfast and dinner.

The hotel is relatively close to the airport, so it could be used as a transit hotel, with one caveat - there is a lot of construction ongoing outside the hotel and the roads can get very congested. It took 20 minutes for me to get from the hotel to the airport, but that could easily be 1 hour plus at the wrong time of the day. This could also affect plans to go downtown if you wanted to see the sights or in Bangkok City Center - it may take you over an hour to get downtown!!!

Room Tip: Would suggest trying to get a room at the back of the hotel due to all the construction happening ou...

My brother and I stayed at The Hotel for two nights over the weekend and liked it.
Our room came with the Buffet breakfast which has a good variety, from Asian to Western. It was literally a hop, skip and jump away from Seacon Square which you can spend a few hours wandering around in. Alternatively, another 10 -15 minutes walk away from the hotel is Paradise Park, yet another shopping centre.
BTW, there is a LOFT store there (in Paradise Park) which for those who has been to Japan, is filled with many delightful but not exactly cheap stuff.
Minor trivia - Due to the contraints of having a park alongside the hotel, there is a restriction of how high building can be built along that stretch of road. No building are allowed to be higher than 5 floors.
Compared to most hotel, Dusit is one of the better ones.
Sure, the carpet is a bit worn out and there are scuff marks on the door and we had to fiddle a bit with the card key to turn on the room's lights, AC etc, but the rooms are clean, the AC works , plenty of hot water, spacious bathrooms, very good service and despite the construction going on, you can still find areas of peace within the hotel.
Loved the staff's attitude (great service , you guys!)
If there was anything less than positive, it was the pillows which my brother felt was too soft, but then again, it was all about personal preference.
Would definitely stay there again on my next trip!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the pool. It's quieter.

Stayed one week for work. I had never been to Bangkok before and the hotel arranged a car to pick me up from the airport which was really smooth and they were waiting with a bottle of water. Travel time to airport from hotel is about 20 minutes. The rooms had a very modern design. Some of the carpet looked a bit worn and needed replacement. The shower did not have consistent water temperature. You have plenty of hot water but sometimes it gets cool and then blasts real hot. Everyone at the desk was very helpful. I booked my reservation through our company US travel agency. When I arrived, several co-workers said they got a better rate because they had the local office book the rooms. I asked the reception desk if they could give me the same rate since I worked for the same company but they denied my request. Not a huge issue but I feel they could have been more accommodating on this topic. The in hotel restaurants are adequate. The breakfast buffet is nice and well stocked. The lunch and dinner buffets have plenty of choices but lack much flavor. The hotel gym is very well equipped. This hotel does not have a business center for printing or faxing. Printing is done at the front desk and is charged to your room. The front desk will assist with taxis and they arrive quickly. One nice feature is the hotel is located next to a shopping mall that offers a variety of dining choices and shopping to pass the time in the evenings. The internet connection was solid and consistent. I would recommend this hotel for business travel. The rooms are well kept and clean. I would however suggest getting out to dinner rather than settling for hotel restaurants. Seacon Square is convenient for entertainment, taxis, currency exchange, etc.

Room Tip: The rooms on the front of the hotel are subject to the road noise and construction. Choose a room on...
