“Excellent hotel”

We have stayed at the PP avery year for the last 5 years or so. The location is great. It is good value for the quality of the rooms and amenities. They have a gym with excellent equipment. The refurbishment has made it even better.

I have no complaints apart from the cost of in room inetrnet access. Wifi (not free) is available only in lounge areas. The cost of internet access works ouot at about AUD$ 0.50 (or $30 per hour - there is a daily cap)) which I think is excessive considering the actual cost of providing it. Compare the prices next door at the MBK on level 7.

I would definitely stay again.

This has got to be one of the most beautiful hotels i have ever stayed at. The rooms the service the people were spectacular. I could not have enjoyed staying at any other hotel more!
I travelled with my partner, sister and some friends. We got the executive suite and it was superb!! There was seperate lounge area with lcd, the bathroom was huge. The room had great views. The pool was nice and relaxing with 2 spas. The buffet breakfast was delicious, alot of variety to choose from! The staff was very friendly and was always willing to help. They always greeted us with a smile. Due to the protests, there wasnt much guests staying there, i feel for the tourist industry in Bangkok.
It was ashame that when we got to bangkok the protests worsened and alot of the major shopping centres like siam square, siam paragon, central world were all closed. We were lucky MBK, which was connected to Pathumwan princess was opened the first few days we were there.
I would definately stay there again on my next trip to bangkok! Would recommend it to anyone!

We stayed in Bangkok for the last couple of nights at the Pathumwan Princess due to the locality to shopping and cinemas. The hotel was very quiet and I would not like to imagine what their occupancy was - I am sure it was low. We got a very good rate of B3000 a night for 2 people including breakfast. We were on the 26th floor in one of the Superior Rooms. The room is very comfortable and the amenities suited our purposes. The swimming pool was inviting and breakfast was being held at the restaurant by the pool. They have great deals for meals and so on. I would like to point out the best thing about this hotel was the service. Everyone was so polite and seemed so happy to see us.
If you are unsure about returning to Bangkok the benefit of this hotel is that you do not really need to walk on the street as you have access to MBK and can hop over to Siam Discovery or Siam Paragon. We went to the Movies in Siam Paragon and were only 2 of about 8 people there.
I love Bangkok and have been here now 10 times. The recent political activity has certainly shaken us all but we thought we would venture out and support local business. I stil recommend keeping a vigilant eye out and never being complacent.

We have been staying at the Pathumwan Princess since 2001 and over the years we have watched it get better and better with each stay. The most recent renovations are amazing and the Hotel Suite was a dream! We stayed there for 9 days on our honeymoon. They dressed up the bed with swans and rose petals. They even gave us discount vouchers and a complimentary cake and fruit basket.

We loved the two plasma tvs in our room, the dvd player, the giant bathroom with full sized tub, desk area and lounge area. A typical day consisted of having breakfast in The Lobby Cafe as it was a lovely change from the buffet breakfast (don't get me wrong, the buffet breakfast was also good as there was everything imaginable you could want for breakfast as it catered to Western and Eastern breakfast tastes). At The Lobby though you got to build your own sandwich with a delicious range of breads and fillings and to-die-for Young Coconut Pie, Cheesecake and a range of other enticing cakes and pastries.

MBK (the shopping centre attached to the hotel) opens its doors at 10am and it's a good tip to be the first customer as you are able to barter and get the best bargains. You will often see shop keepers tapping their goods with the money you have given them as they believe the first sale of the day will bring them good luck. There are a number of brand name items that we love to stock up on when we go to MBK. If you visit the right shops, you will find that the goods they sell are not fakes, but rather the same goods found in the high end stores (as they are made in the same factories) but with some minor minor flaw. For example, I bought my husband a $475 Armani watch from a Department store in Australia and found the same watch in MBK for less than half the price. We have an eye for detail and the only difference was that the links in the band from the watch bought at MBK was only ever so slightly less flexible than the one bought in Australia. Over the years the brand name products bought at MBK have passed the test of time and lasted just as long as the originals we have bought in the high end stores. But you have to go to the right shops in MBK to buy quality and you have to know the brand name product very well so you know what to look out for, e.g. is the stitching strong and the right colour, do the zippers move easily, what is the price you would normally pay for that item in your home country, does it have the correct logo? Don't go to the shop called Kopter as they are very pushy and are a rip off.

There are a number of shops that sell the same items but the quality is always better in one of them. For example, we bought an amazing Go Pro camera to add to our collection - it's a small camera that can be mounted on a car, motorcycle or helmet that takes photos and video (great for snowboarders, surfers and adventurers). Go to the camera store next to Auntie Anne's pretzels for a good deal. If you want Louis Vuitton womens shoes that are strong and durable, go to a shop called Princess (there are two shops but only one sells the good version). You can buy No.7 mens and womens beauty products from Boots Chemist Shops, along with Korean make-up company, Lotree, who do amazing primers and foundation. I'd also recommend stocking up on beauty products like eye liners, eye shadows, brushes, false lashes etc from the Beauty Buffet shop and make up brands like Kate and Covergirl at Watsons Chemist shop. I've tried these products and the quality in Thailand is the same as the quality I've found in Australia and overseas. There's also a great shop that does hand made leather shoes for men and my husband bought a pair of gorgeous spectator shoes that would retail in Australia at Bally for about $700+ and we got it for much less than half price. MBK is also great for baby clothes, great quality Mizuno socks, dvds and nearly anything else you could want, so long as you go to the right store. I even had a straightening perm, cut and colour done at Big Cuts (I think that's the name of the shop - on the same floor as the banks and electronic goods) and it lasted for over 1 year. My hair quality was not damaged at all and I was really happy with it. It took a whole day as I had shoulder length, long, thick hair, but it was worth it. They don't speak much English so it's best to bring in a photo or pick a style while you're there. Better yet, let them choose a style for you as every cut I've had has always been flattering. They also do the best Thai style massage (which involves a lot of stretching) and a nice little aromatherapy massage.

If you need to get cash out during your trip, go to the Sukhumvit Bank also inside MBK. MBK is such a great place to stock up on wedding stationery (you can even get your wedding invites printed here at much less than you could in Australia), attire and accessories for bridal parties, baby showers, home decorating needs etc.

And after all the eating and shopping you'll be doing, don't forget to check out the gym in the hotel as it is one of the best appointed gyms in any 5 star hotel I've ever been in. The pool is wonderful and clean with a great outdoor atmosphere. There are even cocktail promotions at various times around the pool area and in the lobby bar of the hotel which has a singer and pianist most nights. We would highly recommend the Pad Thai and the Crab Fried Rice from the Room Service Menu as it was the best we had had in Thailand. The hotel is ideally situated close to the Sky Train and taxis and tour buses are easily accessible. Remember though to use the bottled water provided daily even for brushing your teeth and don't drink the water (unless it's bottled) and stay away from ice cubes - this will ensure you don't get sick and ruin your holiday. I'd also stay away from soup or food that has not been cooked or kept at the correct temperature. The staff at the Pathumwan and MBK are genuinely friendly and over the years that we have been staying there, they still remember us, which just adds to the feeling that its our home away from home.

The cheapest way to get to the hotel from the airport is a taxi (but the line up is usually long). There are other independent companies that will charge you about 1900 baht to take you in their car, but just for the convenience we prefer to get the hotel car as they are waiting for your arrival and will escort you to the vehicle. Once inside they even provide you with bottled water and a cold face towel to freshen you up after your flight.

Pathumwan is an amazing hotel and there are many Australians who stay there so it's important to treat the Thai people with respect by saying please and thank you, by being respectful of cultural differences and customs, by wearing appropriately covered clothes at appropriate times and not demanding to buy goods at unrealistically cheap prices. We were given this amazing discount when buying a suitcase as the shop keeper was offended by these aggressive, rude German tourists.

Hope your stay at the Pathumwan is as enjoyable as ours always is!

This hotel is one of the nicest i have EVER been to with my partner! It was beautiful inside and out, and the staff were the most sincere and helpful I have come across. The security there is 2nd to none! The amenities were great and the hotel in general was very close to Siam Discovery and only a very short tuktuk ride to Central world. The hotel connects straight onto MBK so going in and out for a quick shop or to eat it was very easy! The buffet breakfast was great and had alot of choices to pick from! Basically everything u could think of having early in the morning. Its disapointing to see whats happening in Bangkok, because its preventing tourists from visiting this great city! I will be back, and will definately stay at Princess Pathumwan again! LOVE IT!

Stayed at this hotel during the red shirts riots in May. What can I say, again a sensational stay. The staff are fantastic, the breakfast was superb and as there werent many tourists around, breakfast was not crowded at all. Rooms were impecable as always too. Loved the pool and the fact MBK was attached to the hotel. I personally wouldnt stay anywere else. A big thank you to the staff for their service and making our stay a delight. Cant fault this place at all.

we stayed at Pathumwan Princess for 5 days in a 1 bedroom suite room, it was fantastic, great views over the city, night time was amazing, the room was great, massive bed and very comfortable, they made the room up twice a day and on an evening left a little chocolate and an orchid on the bed, so lovely!
Breakfast was varied with great food and service
we used the swimming pool which was great, you wouldn't even know that you are in a big city from up there, the day spa also great service, they have a massive gym although we didn't use it
the hotel has direct access into the MBK shopping centre which was great, security on the entrance into PP and in/out of MBK was excellent, the lobby area is massive and night time you can sit around with entertainment going on and have a drink, very relaxing.
the sky train is very close by and you can get it from National Stadium from inside MBK and also over at Siam City, so you can access anywhere in BKK from there
Would highly recommend this resort, and next time in BKK will definately be going again
