I arrived at Bangkok Airport (about midnight) and met a car & driver that I prearranged with the hotel (1200 BHT). The drive was about 30 minutes to the hotel. The hotel is located in the center of Bangkok. For tourists, it's about a 30-40 minute walk to the Royal Palace. The area is OK. Lam Luang Road is quite busy.
The check-in was both friendly and quick. I was in bed and asleep within 30 minutes of arrival. The king size bed was very comfortable, and the room was quiet (I heard no street traffic over my 7-day stay).
The room was clean, but was showing wear-and-tear. The TV was an older model CRT with only a modest number of channels (BBC, Discovery channel, and CNN were the main English language channels). The internet service was somewhat below average with routine drop outs (1000 BHT for 1 week).
Bathroom was clean (shower, toilet, and sink all located in the same room), linens were good quality, with normal amenities (body wash, soap bars, 2-in-1 shampoo & conditioner, q-tips, shower cap, etc.). I didn't drink the water but used the daily 1-liter bottle of water supplemented with 2-liter bottles that I bought at the 7-11 across the street. The room also had complementary slippers and robes in the closet.
The closet was lit by interior lights that came on as you opened the closet door. The closet included a safe and plenty of hangers.
The room had a couple of nice mirrors, a built in vanity, and a desk with a chair. There were phones at the desk, bed, and in the bathroom.
Breakfast was very good with excellent variety. They serve a variety of hot dishes (including a chef to prepare omelets), cereal, fresh fruit, fruit juices, breads, etc.. Didn't try the lunch, but the dinner menu was good (pad thai was good). The bar was good (176 BHT for a Singha beer).
The staff at the hotel was very very good, and exceedingly friendly. The staff is generally good with english.
The hotel gym was below average. They had one treadmill, a stationary bicycle, and a bench with some free weights. The treadmill worked OK for the 1st kilometer, but began to hesitate (probably a slipping drive) on the 2nd kilometer (I quit). Informed the staff, but I didn't try it a 2nd time. I had to skip the gym a few times when the bike was occupied.
