“Good for the price”
Reviewed May 30, 2008

Stayed at the Royal Princess for 6 nights. As some have said in other reviews the staff are definitely great here. The breakfasts are a great way to start the day. Pool is lovely.
However the location is definitely not that convenient - although you can get a taxi inexpensivlely or use the free shuttle to MBK etc.
My first room was very noisy from road traffic - even though i was on the 7th floor with the balcony. I was moved to another room which was smaller but unfortunately on a smoker floor. That was probably the only not so fab thing - other than that - great housekeeping, staff, breakfasts etc.
Probably wouldn't stay there again unless I needed to be close to a business there - I like to try something new.
However if on a budget - this is great value for money.

Stayed here with a group in early February for five nights. I was a bit "iffy" after reading some of the comments, but was assured by others travelling with us that it would be fine.

They were right and I was wrong. The hotel may be ageing a little (though not enough to be of concern) but it is beautifully clean and has a wonderful warm feeling about it. We felt instantly at home; it's not at all cold and impersonal, as some hotels are.

Our room was quiet and clean, adequately furnished and on a non-smoking floor, as requested. The bed was h-u-g-e; we referred to it as "the flight deck". The airconditioning worked very well, and was quiet and the bathroom, though a bit battered, was clean.

We ate regularly in the small(ish) dining room, which had a good menu selection at reasonable prices. Breakfast was included in our room price and was a very satisfying buffet, with eggs to order.

The lobby bar and lounge was a restful place for a quiet drink before dinner or after a hard day's shopping(!) Two complimentary drinks vouchers for our room impressed my wife, while I am happy to recommend their Long Island Iced Tea ...

The hotel is back off the road and screened from the traffic and hustle-bustle by trees and walls. It is a little haven of quiet from the constant rush that is Bangkok.

Although the minibar prices were, by Australian standards anyway, more than reasonable, there is a 7-11 directly over the road, which sells beer, snack foods and emergency supplies (e.g. painkillers, toothpaste, deodorant etc.), among other things. Just be sure to use the overpass to get there and don't risk life and limb by trying to beat the traffic and run across the road.

We also sampled the onsite Italian restaurant (Piccolo). It's a little more upmarket but not too extravagant. Meals are not designed for big eaters, but were absolutely delightful and very Italian ... the basket of hot breads on ordering was much appreciated, too. Service is attentive without being obtrusive.

The staff were all, without exception, really nice people. They are obviously well trained and happy to please the guests. Along with the pleasant atmosphere, I would say the staff are the hotel's biggest asset.

  • Liked — The feel and staff friendliness
  • Disliked — Not much to see/do in close proximity to hotel -- but taxis are VERY cheap!

Stayed here in Dec 2007.
As a family of four with two young children we were pleased to be given 2 inter-connecting rooms that were clean and quite spacious.

The pool is good for a relaxing dip and is bigger than many other hotel pools.
Breakfast was good.

There are 3 restaurants at this hotel, a chinese/Thai one, an Italian and a Japanese. We dined in the chinese one on our first night as we arrived late and we were eating alone. I never saw more than a few people in any of these restaurants during our 4 night stay - is this down to the prices charged I wonder ?

As other reviews have commented there isn't much in the immdeiate vicinity of the hotel, but there are several places to eat with a 15 - 20 minute walk away especially near to the democracy monument on the Rajadamnoen Boulevard.

I would recommend this hotel, but if you are travelling from the airport, try to get directions in Thai before you get there as most taxi drivers don't seem to know where it is and don't seem able to read maps in English. Our driver spent most of the trip on the phone trying to get directions.

We have just spent three nights in Bangkok at the Royal Princess Hotel in Larn Luang.

The hotel reception areas are quite impressive but our room was very basic and a little tired looking. However, whilst the accommodation was below par, i can not fault the service of this hotel - the staff were fantastic and would do everything they could to ensure you had an enjoyable stay. The reception staff were more than happy to answer questions about the region and make restaurant reservations for you.

The breakfast was fantastic and definately worth getting up for - it had almost everything you could think of!

I would definately recommend their airport pick up service. Its more expensive than a metered taxi but well worth it after a long flight. The driver also gave us some valuable tips about local sights (for example, people will try and tell you that the Grand Palace is closed when you go there - don't believe them, it isn't. Indeed, three locals stopped us on the way there to tell us this and when we got there it most definately wasn't closed!).

Location wise, the hotel is perfect. Its still noisy but not as bad as the hotels right in the centre of the area. Taxi's to Siam Paragon cost about 60 thb, River City cost about 100 thb and a taxi back to the airport cost us 450thb.

I read all the reviews about the hotel before booking and checking in, I must admit i was not sure it will ok, but I had no choice since I was stuck on Xmas eve without any known hotel available with my wife and 3 year daughter.

First you should know, if you check the hotel website ([--]) and check the hotel pictures, it looks exactly the same!
That is unique, since most hotels show older pictures than their current status.
The decor is basic, not really up to date, but the rooms are very clean, spacious deluxe twin room, overlooking the pool.
The shower has the best hot water current I met for a long time in a hotel, even more expensive ones.
It has plenty of nice cool amenities and good towels.
The only problem with the shower is the shower head is rather low, so even if you are only a medium height like me, it isn't the most conferrable.

Location is a big issue in previous reviews, you should know there is no shopping or eating just in the street out of the hotel, but khaosan Rd. is about 20 min. of easy walking, and Siam center is min. away by cab, both cost about 40-45 baht during non rush hours taxis. So it is really not a big issue, and eat is very cheap if you compare to hotels near the Siam center at same level.

I had no breakfast in the rate I paid so I can not comment about that, but I must say service is great, whenever I asked for anything is was carries out quickly and efficiently with a smile.

Also from previous reviews is the concierge, no problems for me, but beware of the taxi drivers, they will always try to lure you into a fixed price ride - it is always more expensive than meter, they might take you for a ride as punishment for asking meter, so choose the cab carefully.

We chose this hotel because our tour of Thailand departed from there the day after we arrived. We really enjoyed our stay. The rooms were lovely,-clean, simple decor, all the facilities you would need and a nice pool.

We went for a walk around the hotel soon after arrival and found that it wasn't really near any shops or sights, so we hired tuk tuks or taxis to get around to the livlier areas. However it was interesting to be out of the mad tourist area and to see ordinary thai families at work.

The breakfast was lovely, they offered a wide variety of asian and european foods. We ate in the Chinese restaurant one night and it was of a very high standard (although more expensive than anywhere else we ate).

The staff here really made you feel looked after and were always eager to help, polite and friendly.

This may not be the best hotel in Bangkok but I am giving it a 5 star rating because I found nothing wrong with it. It served its purpose well which was to accomodate my wife, her sister and I during our 2 day stay to do our shopping in Bangkok. Buffet breakfast every morning was excellent, rooms were nice and tidy, staff were helpful and friendly and italian restaurant was delicious. It has internet facilities, a nice pool and a gift shop. Yes it isn't close to MBK (popular shopping centre) or the popular markets such as Khoasan Rd but I knew this before booking and the hotel does provide a free shuttle service to MBK and Patpong road daily (one way only) . Any other market will cost you no more than 70-80 Baht (AUD$2.50) to get there by taxi or tuk tuk. I notice alot of people write bad reviews because they compare it to their own country. You have to remember that some asian countries arent as fortunate as most other countries and that we take things for granted. Bangkok is a beautiful city with lovely people. Royal Princess is a perfect hotel for anyone looking for a decent valued hotel who is not worried about catching a 10-15 minute taxi/tuk tuk ride to MBK and other surrounding markets.
