Reviewed February 7, 2014

Stayed at the Amari Watergate during the hight of the Bangkok Shutdown. In contrast to the CNN reports - it really was the BEST time to be in Bangkok! The location of the Amari is brilliant as major shopping areas such as Siam Paragon and MBK is just a short walk away! The hotel is looking amazing after the recent renovation. Apart from the brilliant rooms, amazing beds, great restaurants (Thai on 4 a MUST) and superb public spaces - one of the greatest assets are the staff - from Concierge to Cleaners - always service with a huge smile and a "CAN DO' attitude! A REAL WINNER on the Bangkok skyline!!

Room Tip: It really is worth paying a bit more and upgrading to the Executive Floors!

Love the thoughtful attention to details
Main bathroom door doubles as toilet door - so wash basin can be used even when someone is in the toilet
The long shelf behind headboard - good for disorganized people like me to leave their books, snacks, keys, wallets

Not so hot were the power-points
2 at the writing table
But if you come from a country that uses 3-pin plugs, the 2 sockets would be too narrow
So you can only use one plug at a time

Even less hot - how room lights are controlled
Instead of switches. there's a bedside control panel
Trouble is, when it's dark, you - I - can't quite tell what's what

Also annoying for a green-freak like me that the 2 lamps can only be turned on if the overhead lights are turned on
So, if you need just the table lamp, you can't
The overhead lights have to be turned on

Also, a bit daft the overhead lights\lamps can only be controlled by the switch at the main door
(it's not on the control panel)
So if you want to turn off the overhead light\lamps, you got to walk to the door

I'm guessing most people just leave the lights on

M Pierre, the General Manager - wonderful
Was in the lobby helping out with bags
When I tried tipping him, he declined and suggested the money be given to the staff

If more bank managers\CEOS were like this GM, the world would be a better place

Room Tip: Sorry, no tips

Did a 2nd stay at Amari Watergate and stayed for 3 nights. Prime location just opposite Platinum Shopping Centre and Pratunam market. Siam Square and the surrounding areas are a 15-20 minutes walk.

Room was large with city views and generally well-maintained, even though the design of the bathroom looks a bit dated. Check-in and check-out were fast and hassle-free, and generally staff were all very friendly and greeted us whenever they saw us. We did not get a chance to make use of the pool as we were out shopping everyday from morning till night.

Nonetheless, would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Bangkok for a holiday.

I've read rave reviews about the Amari Watergate but have never stayed here even though I've been to Bangkok about a dozen times. My family and I finally booked rooms here because of the very attractive price offered.
Before we arrived, I emailed the hotel and the response was always prompt and helpful. A request for connecting rooms was fulfilled and when I enquired about the situation in Bangkok, I was assured that it was completely safe. (Which it was - you would never know there was any unrest. There were certainly no protests near the hotel.)
The location in Pratunam was very convenient and exploring the bustling street bazaar was fun. Platinum Mall was across the road (via an overhead bridge) and Pantip Plaza (for computer stuff) just another 5 minutes walk.
The room itself was spacious with twin sinks in the bathroom. There were both a long bath as well as a shower booth.
Service was excellent - from the staff at Reception, at the Promenade restaurant, especially at Thai on 4 restaurant and the very gentlemanly GM who helped us with luggage and taxi booking when we checked out.
I would certainly love to stay here again!

We stayed on the executive floor during the recent protests in bkk. The price was fine, check in smooth and the staff very helpful. Loved the happy hour at evening and went a few times. Actually skipped main meal once or twice and ate the canapés and drank the fine wine instead. Although the buffet brekkie was reduced to al le carte for the last few days it still was very good. Pool area was good, (could do with a heated jacuzzi). Location was prime for airport link and sky train ( about 300 mtrs to each). Shopping precinct right across the road for all the major centres. Would recommend highly.

Room Tip: Executive floor was all we sampled although our son and daughter in law were a couple of floors belo...

We booked this hotel because it was recommended and i was able to get a deal which meant it was much cheaper than where we normally stay (Terminal 21/Marriott). First impressions were okay, the lobby is lovely, check in went smoothly.

On arrival to the room, i was disappointed that the room had an interconnecting door to the adjoining room. That night we were kept awake by a family on the other side until very late. Then in the morning there was a lot of noise coming through the interconnecting door. I went downstairs to ask for a room change, which was arranged straightaway and as i was coming back up, the hotel cleaning team were piling out of the adjoining room next to ours. I could not believe that the staff had felt it appropriate to have a team meeting in the adjoining room at 8am in the morning. No wonder it was so noisy, I saw at least 10 people come out of the room.

We were moved to a room on the same floor which was a corner room and we had no further noise complaints after this. The room 1001, had a lovely view of the pool.

The cleanliness of the room could have been better, it was dusty and whilst our room looked to have had a upgrade there were certain aspects such as the sink blocking and the plug not working that made me think a quick patch up job was done.

The pool area was beautiful and a welcome retreat from the heat. The pool is open until 10pm and it was nice to have a night time swim. The spa facilties were nice also.

The food in the hotel was excellent. We ended up eating at the hotel several times, due to finding out I am pregnant and suffering from sickness we weren't always able to go far. However, the food was great and we never had a bad meal. We ate at the cascade, pool bar, thai restaurant and had room service.

The ladies in traditional dress playing music in the lobby was a lovely touch.

The location is great, with all the major shopping centres close by.

We are unlikely to return to this hotel again, but this is mainly because there are so many other hotels that we are keen to try in Bangkok.

Room Tip: Make sure that you don't have a room with an adjoining door unless you want one. The noise does...
