I booked a three-day Christmas break in a 'Deluxe Premier River View' room.

This is what Anantara promises 'River View' guests on its website:

"Wake up each morning to exceptional Chao Phraya River views from one of the most enchanting riverside hotels in Bangkok and enjoy a refreshing breeze from your private balcony."

Check my photos. Exceptional view of treetops - Yes. Exceptional view of the river - No.

So far, rest of the place - staff, food, service - is 'exceptional' value for money, sure. But why the inaccurate inducement? No need to play these tricks, Anantara.

I emailed the Reservation Manager asking for a room change or an upgrade. 24 hours later I'm still waiting for a reply.

We stayed here for a few days before we flew home. We had a lovely room which had a balcony.
Check in was smooth and the staff were charming.
This hotel has a lovely pool, good restaurants and a wonderful bakery.
On our last night we are in the Japanese restaurant, what a treat, the food was amazing and the chef cooked at the table and did a few quirky tricks etc.. Good fun but great food.
There is a complimentary boat that takes you up the river to the sky train, after the hassle and bustle of bangkok it's good to head back down the river.
Lovely stay, thanks again.

We stayed the second time at this place, especially due to its location in a beautiful and widespread garden with a pool: a green and quiet "island" in busy Bangkok. We had a room in the newly renovated part of the hotel with a very nice bathroom. The ferry service from the Hotel to the Chaopraya-Ferrys and the BTS-Skytrain is very practical, it's more relaxing and faster than transport by taxi, tuktuk or bus. The Anantara is a big hotel, but we had the impression, there is still a personalized service and a very customer oriented attitude of the staff, especially Mr. Manish, responsable for the restaurants/reservation was very friendly and professional. Another plus is the breakfast, probably one of the best in Bangkok. You do not only find a big variety, but also a very good qualitiy of food. The only thing I didn't like was the bad pop music at the Thai Restaurant at the Pier. It would be better no music at all or a good selection adjusted to that nice place on the Chao Praya.

Room Tip: we had a room to the garden, which was perfect. From other guests we heard, that rooms towards the r...

I have stayed at this resort about 15 times between 2005-2011 when it was The Marriott Resort and Spa. Now it is an Anantara Resort and Spa. The rooms have been refurbished but not to a great extent. Cosmetic changes (paints, bedsheets etc) only. The rest is the same. I stayed there in November 2013 for the first time under the new management... mostly the hotel is the same but the prices have shot up. There are better deals all over Bangkok for a similar star level hotels.
Marriott use to be my home away from home, Anantara was like going to a hotel for the first time.Marriott staff is gone and somehow it is not the same.

Room Tip: make sure you don't end up on the side where the bridge is... noisy at all times because the hot...

We stayed for 3 nights at the end of November and found this to be a brilliant hotel. It's location is great, away from the bustle of Bangkok, also we had Pim the lobby ambassador guru show us around when we first arrived which was a great start to our stay.

Asked trailfinders to find me an ok 4* hotel in Bangkok as it was only really for two nights to get over jetlag. Decent hotel, ok location on river, but you do need to catch an 15 boat shuttle to get to main transport system Redommended if you dont want or need yo be right in middle of the action.

This hotel could not be faulted. We were there for 3 nights and were well looked after by the staff. The room was comfortable with good views of the river. The hotel is slightly out of Bangkok centre (thankfully) but the.frequent free boat which takes you to the Skytrain is very useful. Inevitably food in the hotel is quite expensive but is very good. We also enjoyed relaxing in the piano bar for post dinner drinks. We would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: River view
