“Nice place to stay in Bangkok with your family”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

Good points:
Hotel facilities: colonial style hotel with huge tropical garden, quite big swimming pool and nice pool surrounding area (pool bar, Jacuzzi).
Staff: very polite, really look after hotel guests.
Location: by the river opposite side to the main Bangkok activities but the hotel has its own boat crossing the river every 30 minutes from early in the morning until midnight. At night going back to the hotel by taxi will cost you not more than USD 10 for the ride.
Family friendly: perfect for a stay in Bangkok with children.

Neutral:
Food: breakfast choice is not breathtaking but it’s OK and offers enough choice to please Asians, Arabs or Westerners. Prices for food in hotel is a little bit expensive, compared to what you can find in the city (say double the price), but keep in mind you are in a five stars hotel so the food price goes with hotel standard.
Facilities: there is this fantastic tropical garden in the middle of the hotel so get ready to meet around the pool all kinds of insects, frogs, lizards,…

Can do better:
Room cleanliness: rooms are clean as long as you do not look under the bed or behind the furniture, then you will find the room very dusty. Staff need to be better trained or hotel needs to put more staff on this task (during our five days stay we saw always the same lady taking care of the housekeeping for the entire floor where our rooms were, while usually for such tasks in this type of hotel you would expect a team of 2 or 3).
Rooms: a little bit aged, especially the bathrooms, for which the hotel should definitely start a upgrading program to set them at current days’ standard
Restaurants: maybe due to the low season period, but hotel restaurants were most of the time empty

Room Tip: Great place for family and people looking for a relaxing place in Bangkok. For a romantic stay spend...

We have stayed at Anantara Riverside several times and have never ever benn disappointed. The staff and service is outstanding, the surroundings incredible, rooms beautiful and all in all the very best place to stay in Bangkok!

Room Tip: All rooms are good but for the best stay ask for a room facing the pool.

We got to Bangkok after Ao Nang and Singapore. We checked in quickly. We were originally given a basic kind of room and the air con was temperamental but we were upgraded to celebrate my 40th and my partners 50th birthdays! We came back from the city to a suite type room with balcony and a cake. The cake was absolutely delicious and a really sweet thing to do. This room was absolutely great, clean and spacious even though it was in the area which hadn't been renovated. There is a courtesy shuttle boat which takes you to either the night market or the main pier from where you can go by ferry to Wat Arun or further onwards. Breakfast was a buffet where there was lots of choice, good food and a nice restaurant. The pool and jacuzzi are great with lots of loungers and towels. There isn't much outside the hotel roadside. We stayed when it was Lay Krathong so we were able to be part of the celebratiosn which are truly magical.

Room Tip: Go for a river view if you can.

I was excited to read the excellent reviews regarding this hotel, however my impressions quickly soured from the moment I walked into the lobby. The hotel feels dark and dated and it is not in an area a tourist would comfortably walk around in. I requested a non-smoking room but could smell cigarette smoke as soon as I walked off of the elevator. Upon opening the door to my room, I had to turn around and leave due to the smell of cigarette smoke and must. The second room wasn't any better. It had a stong musty smell and most of the surfaces had not been wiped down well. The air conditioning was very loud (even on 'low') and the bed linens had stains and a hair. It was after 10PM when I got to the second room and by that time I was tired and just wanted the experience to end.

If you are looking for a little bit of luxury this is the place. Wonderful position on the river with a great river taxi service to Shopping areas , food outlets and shows. The bfast is awesome but the hotel restaurants are expensive, though excellent and good for that one special night.
The Sky Bar is worth a visit as is the Show, "Calypso" which you can reach via the hotel water ferry.
The non stop river traffic is fascinating to watch,
The hotel staff without exception were excellent. Use the hotel airport transfer system, it is good.
Avoid using Taxis for any lengthy trips, the congestion is terrible. Learn quickly to use the MTC system. It is fast and efficient.
If you book well ahead this hotel provides great early bird rates. The Angsana corner suites
are superb and give you access to the excellent VIP lounge, happy hour and day long snacks.

Room Tip: Ask for Angsana suite and take early bird special

Absolutely incredible on every level. Better than Labua State Tower where we stayed last time. 10/10 for us with everything. Best breakfast I have ever had in any hotel or resort and that says a lot. We will be going back for sure while the prices are this good.

Room Tip: Every room we saw was great.
