I have stayed at the Novotel Lotus on and off over 10 years. For a hotel of its age it remains remarkably fresh, and the staff, particularly in the breakfast restaurant on the 9th floor were always friendly and helpful. This is very important when you are dining with a very active 22 month old daughter!
The location is superb, just 5 minutes walk to the Emporium (shop 'til you drop) and Skytrain, and plenty of great restaurants as soon as you leave the lobby. And of course there is Soi 33 itself!
Novotel Lotus remembers me when I arrive, and is my home away from home in BKK.

Stayed at the Novotel Hotel in Bangkok. It's very nice and for a big city the rate was reasonable, more expensive than other parts of Thailand but you are in the middle of a major city. The good thing about it is that it's easy to get to everything from this location. Shopping is available across the street but you can take the Sky Train and be at the Grand Palace or other sites for very little money. Getting the floating market is a little longer to get to and it's easiest to take a taxi for about $20. Lots of good food nearby. Taxi to the airport is only about $9/

Only stayed 2 nights but have used this hotel many times in the past.
Stayed this time as I booked on the morning I was going to BKK and got a room for 1400 THB which is very cheap for this hotel.
Upon arrival I was upgraded to a deluxe room which was more than I really needed but a nice touch.
Close to the BTS and Emporium shopping mall.

Stayed in this hotel for 1 night with hubby on our way to Southern Thailand.
Made us feel very welcome, hassle free check in, slightly far from Airport but for the good service, great choice of buffet breakfast and the proximity to various shopping centre and nightlife, it is worth it.
Will definitely stay there if we are in Bangkok again,
