“Excellent location for new airport and MRT - a good value 4* hotel”
Reviewed January 21, 2007

The main advantage that this hotel has is its location. The Phra Ram 9 MRT station is literally on the doorstep, and the hotel is connected to the Fortune Town mall with its numerous stores and Tesco Lotus hypermarket. In addition, the expressway to the new airport is just minutes away, so on a good day, the journey is only around 20 minutes. Though it'd be best to allow 40 minutes in case of traffic...

I think the hotel represents very good value for money. Certainly not the best 4* hotel I have stayed at in Bangkok, but the rooms are fairly spacious and very clean. Breakfast was a bit of a disappointment overall - I went downstairs and was told that due to the discounted rate I'd paid for the room, I'd have to have breakfast on the 9th floor instead :( Here the service was extremely slow, however on a good note, the staff were very helpful when I said I was a vegetarian and asked the chef to prepare me with special items.

Wireless broadband internet access is a little costly - other hotels I've stayed in offer free access in the lobby, whereas the Fortune doesn't.

Stayed at the Grand Mercure Fortune Hotel 2 night in august 2006, nice hotel, great location. If you exit the hotel and walk about 50 meters you reach the subway line at Phra 9 Station, only 2 stops to Sukhumvit/Asok Station where you can transfer to the BTS Skytrain. I'ts convenient becaus you are distant from the noisy Sukhumvit area, but via the Subway you can reach it in about 2 minutes. Hotel is very nice, clean, rooms are spacious, bathroom clean. staff firendly but not to mutch... Overall a quite unremarkable hotel. Try it if you get a cheap rate on the internet.

Fortune Hotel : Don't expect too much .

I saw their promotion on the web and booked the room which looked lovely on the net, however when I checked into the room it was not even 50% of what I had expected...I complained but the reception insisted that this was the room I had booked...since it was prepaid , I could not change the hotel and had to stay.

Regarding the over advertised electronics market in this hotel - I found it totally unreliable as it was full of cheap chinese goods, fake dvds, porno cds etc - which is not my style....

breakfast is OK , nothing special,

If you are single and fun loving ,be ready to pay BHT 700 per guest per visit.

Will I stay here again - NO because I have found another hotel - The Palazzo @ BHT 1200 per night including taxes and breakfast.

I have stayed there thrice and found them to be real good.

  • Liked — near the metro
  • Disliked — communication gap between hotel department
  • Tips/Secrets — Never go for a big hotel in Bangkok ..all you need is a good airconditioned bed, so go for hotels like The Palazzo, Zenith, City lodge etc

We are a family of 6 (2 adults, 4 children, including 1 baby 6 months old)
We booked 4 nights in two inter-connecting Club Rooms.
Lovely rooms, comfy beds, good bathrooms. Very clean, nicely decorated (looked like it had been recently refurbished).
With having booked Club Rooms we were checked in on the 26th floor. Very friendly staff and made us feel welcome. Club Lounge is nice, and every evening we went for the free drinks and canapes. During the day you can have coffee, tea etc. You can also use the internet (quite fast) on two terminals they have.
The location of the hotel is brilliant. It's attached to the Fortune Mall, which is a great computer mall (hubby thought he was in 7th heaven) but there is enough to keep the ladies happy too. Few Massage parlours, Giant sports store, Tesco Lotus, make-up shops etc.
Great Food Court and the Mall also has an excellent choice of restaurants too ... check out the Japanese. Great food and very cheap. Also, if you like egg tarts, check out the little stall in the food court in front of the Tesco entrance ... to die for :-)
It was so convenient having this mall attached to the hotel.
If you wanted to get to other parts of Bangkok the underground is just there and only a couple of stops before it connects you to the BTS (Also, I think the hoel runs shuttles to the Asoke (sp?)- BTS connection)
We had breakfast in the lobby restaurant. Very, very nice. Service a bit average ... but the food wonderful. Fresh leg of ham that you could carve off as much as you wanted!!
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel (we have been to LandMark and Marriott Resort on previous stays).
We didn't use the pool as we were too busy ... but we checked it out. It's not bad at all for a big city hotel pool. Better than the Landmarks. It's small, but has a nice "feel" to it.
The Club Lounge staff were really friendly and always made such a fuss of the kids.
The Fortune was such a good value for money hotel. Would definately stay again.

  • Liked — Access to the Club Lounge for drinks
  • Disliked — No complaints
  • Tips/Secrets — Get the tuk tuk out the front for 50 baht to take you down the road to Carrefoure .. worth checking out

The Grand Mercure Fortune Hotel located on Ratchadapisek Rd. was an excellent hotel to stay at. The location was right on the subway line at Phra 9 Station, only 2 stops to Sukhumvit/Asok Station where you can transfer to the BTS Skytrain. The front desk reps were very hospitable but spoke limited English. We checked into a Club Level room and was escorted to the Club Level Lounge for check-in on the 25th floor. The club level lounge included internet access and many food presentations throughout the day. Our room was spacious with dark hardwood floors, super comfortable comforters, spacious bathroom with thick towels, and more. Being on the club level, guest were given complimentary wireless access cards valued at 600 bht/300 minutes each, we requested two because we had two laptops. With the club level rooms only 1000 bht more over the standard rooms, the club level room is the choice when you want to use the internet. You can request as many wireless cards as you wish. I am assuming you can get many cards and downgrade to a standard room later in a stay and still use the card because the wireless is throughout the hotel. Breakfast was a choice of club lounge or hotel restaurant. We ate the club lounge and included continental fare and fresh fruits. Throughout the day, the lounge provided drinks and snacks. The pool at the hotel seemed small but do-able for a metropolitan city hotel. Next to the hotel is Fortune Town and IT Mall that has many stores for your electronic needs. There is also a couple convenience stores lined up along the front of the IT Mall, ground floor, and KFC, and Pizza Hut.

We stayed at this hotel for two weeks in June/July 2006. We had a corner room on the 20th floor which was quite, clean and generally OK - nothing special though. Housekeeping sometimes forgot to replace all towels and amenities. My Thai friend pointed out that there was a poster advertising for personnel near the entrance of the hotel indicating a high turnover. There are remarkably different opinions on the breakfast at this hotel. I can shed light on this. There are two buffet breakfasts available. The regular one is served on the ground floor and includes full American, European and Asian choices, eggs cooked to order and table service for tea and coffee. The other one is served in the Thai restaurant on the 12th floor and includes European Continental and Asian choices. You are assigned a breakfast according to your room rate. If it’s cheap you get the cheaper one. Public transport (Metro) and shopping options (Fortune IT Mall and Tesco/Lotus superstore) are excellent. Overall a quite unremarkable hotel. Try it if you get a cheap rate.

Stayed 3 nights at the grand mercure fortune. Found it overall pleasant hotel. The price versus quality is perfect.Used to stay at the landmark which is much more expensive (double) compared to This hotel. Rooms are good, nice bathroom, furniture could use a little update.Room service excellent, front desk excellent.....realy nothing to complain about. walk out of hotel and directly connected to the subway.2 stops for silom (when you go out at night/patpong) easy access by toll way in the late hours back to hotel.(15 minutes).Pool is -ok- nice garden setting around the pool (check out the carper fishes)... 1 negative point is breakfast... for european " style" i found it a bit poor, not much choise, how ever if you are totaly in to asian breakfasts.... then perfect.

this was a good hotel, will def. come back
