“Really nice experience”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

This is our second time at this hotel. Even though it's convenient for travelers but I have difficult time finding taxi from other places back to the hotel since the traffic in Bangkok pretty bad. The hotel offer a wide range of food selection and close by attraction. Last time, my mother have a bad time since she keeps fall over the conner of the stair going to 1st floor, but this time, they have but two rocks to cover it, quite nice idea!.

Dear Annabella

Thank you for returning to The Okura Prestige Bangkok and for sharing the details of your stay on TripAdvisor. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your experience once again. We are glad you noticed the changes we made to the steps in the lobby since your first stay and must apologise once again that your mother tripped over those when you were last here. We hope to welcome you back again soon!

Yours sincerely

I really enjoyed staying at the Okura Prestige. The hotel staff were extra attentive to my needs and showered us with hospitality and great attention to details. They were very helpful through out my stay and made my experience a truly enjoyable one. I would definitely recommend the Okura to friends and family.

Room Tip: Book a room that is with the okura club to get faster internet and access to food

I have stayed in other places that I loved more for their character, charm, and history. The Okura doesn't have a lot of those things, but it is probably the most luxurious hotel I've ever stayed in, and you cannot deny that every little detail is given the utmost care and is basically perfect. I stayed here for work and I thought it was pretty spectacular, from the delicious breakfast buffet to the paper cranes left on my pillow during turn-down service. The staff were all wonderful, service was perfect, and the room was beautiful. All the amenities were top-notch, although I didn't use the gym or pool, so I can't speak to those (the pool is a sight unto itself, though!). The location is just great - right in the heart of the downtown action, *right* on the skytrain, and near to a million places to eat, from street food markets to upscale restaurants. The Okura is just a really beautiful hotel, in all respects - for business travel in particular, you can't go wrong.

I stayed in the Okura Prestige Hotel in Bangkok over the Chinese New Year period in early Feb 2013. I decided to try this hotel out after hearing some generally positive reviews given by my friends who had also stayed there last year.

I must say that the hotel is generally of a high standard in terms of service, technology, cleanliness and hospitality. The location is also quite good (though not as convenient as say, Chidlom or the Siam areas) and with easy access to the Phloen Chit Skytrain BTS Station. There is also a nice Dean and Deluca Cafe in the adjacent building and a convenience "7-Eleven" shop. The "downside" is that there is quite a bit of construction going on around the hotel and eventually, the new buildings may well block the views of the hotel once they are done.

The hotel is situated on the upper few floors of a new building along Wireless Road. The check-in was generally seamless and efficient. I had a Prestige Suite which was very spacious and filled with modern amenities and fairly high-end luxury toiletries, which you would expect of such a hotel. The housekeeping was generally prompt and thorough. The club floor lounge was good, though not the best one I've had compared to some of the other hotels in Bangkok or Asia. Its a bit small.

Breakfast in the lobby cafe was lovely with a very good array of local and international favourites. Service was also very good. The hotel restaurant (Elements) was also impressive with a selection of well crafted and prepared international (though generally western) cuisine. Sitting in the patio outside the restaurant was thrilling in itself.

Overall, I would say that this is a hotel worthy of its "5 Star" rating. The only few minor issues that need some improvement are not not all that important and I don't want to seem to be "nit picky".

The hotel is conveniently located, just right next to the BTW Phloen Chit station and you can walk from the hotel building to the station via a covered walkway. But location is the best thing about this hotel.

If you are a holiday maker, coming to Bangkok for leisure, I think this hotel is not a good choice. First, the swimming pool is almost useless. It is completely shaded and can't see the sun from around Dec to Feb every year (to be exact, the sun do shine on the pool from 7 to 9 ish in the morning, but only part of it receives sunlight). The water in the pool is icy, can hardly swim. And there aren't many sun beds. The hotel also lacks a garden and doesn't offer any kind of relaxing environment or Thai ambience. The hotel is on the top floors of a modern office building, and once you inside, you won't be able to tell that you are in Bangkok. It can be just another 5 star hotel in any other big cities. It certainly lacks character.

Service is very nice. And staff are very friendly. Rooms are not too big and it is average Bangkok 5 star size. Nothing amazing. The bathroom and toilets are separated and is relatively bigger than other hotels. I like the walk in closet, and it comes with ironing board, a safe and ample area for hanging clothes.

Free wi-fi comes with the room, but it is slow. For higher speed, you have to pay. The buffet breakfast is just so so. Choices are not that good, and I had better breakfast in other Bangkok hotels.

There are many 5 star hotels in Bangkok and competition is keen. I would not say that it is not good, but Okura is just not good enough to stand out amid the competitors in Bangkok. It could be the best hotel in other cities, but certainly not in Bangkok. For business traveller, it might be a good choice, but for someone travelling for leisure, you better do more research first.

Lastly, while taking BTS from the hotel is extremely convenient, taking taxi is not that easy, especially from the front entrance facing Wittayu (Wireless) Road. Hard to find a taxi to come in.

Dear Client,

We appreciate your comments regarding your stay at The Okura Prestige Bangkok. It is always a pleasure to receive your feedback.
I also thank you for your posting. It is always a pleasure if our clients share their experience at our Hotel. The pool, facing north, is obviously more in the shade during the winter months, but between April and September you will find sunshine from sunrise to sunset, guaranteed. We will have additional sun-lounges available by then too.
I would also like to share with you that we are planning to heat the water in our pool with solar panels as of the coming winter season.

As a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, the hotel continuously strives to meet your needs and expectation and as such we are very thankful to receive such feedback.
Thank you again for sharing your experience, and we look forward to serving you in the future.

Sincerely,
