Owner description: One of Bangkok’s best-kept secrets is Khlong Toey, a chaotic, sprawling food market not far from the city’s centre. It’s a travel photographer’s dream, packed with shouting market vendors offering live produce, fresh fruit and vegetables and cooked local dishes. Eye-opening and enthralling, it’s a great insight into how locals live – and to where your moo manow really comes from.

“A real taste and feel of Bangkok!”
Reviewed November 23, 2013

I really love finding places like this. Sights and sounds and smells that will stay with you. I love to take pics of the locals in these environments. I got some fantastic shots here and the people were all friendly and accepting, although I don't speak their language. Really gives you a sense of a typical day in their lives. As others mention, lots of animal parts and critters and food stuffs in a unique setting.

“Authentic market for the locals”
Reviewed November 19, 2013

real insight into non tourist bangkok. It is next to very smelly river and is huge and busy.. most food is live you'll see fish flapping off their trays onto the floor, frogs and crabs trying to escape their pens. Live geese ducks chickens.

A great experience but we weren't that enthusiastic to buy or eat produce as found the smell off putting .preferred Or Tor Kor for that purpose but would highly recommend visiting this market for the experience

“A local experience”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

Khlong Toei is the market to go if you want to discover the local habits and avoid touristic cliches.

To get the take the MRT to Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (closer to the market then Khlong Toei's) and walk to the intersection of Rama 4 with Rama 3. If you're using google maps ignore the marking they have as it is (at the time of this writing) out of place.

The market itself is a good experience but can be demanding on your senses and can at times be quite gruesome. Just be prepared for the strong smells and the very explicit images. Read more on the Khlong Toei fresh market at http://www.lifesauntering.com/2013/08/khlong-toei-fresh-market.html

“Off the beaten track, not for faint hearted”
Reviewed August 23, 2013

A 5 min walk away from khlong Toey underground station, this market has most food items imaginable on display. Plenty of vegetable and fruit stands with attractively coloured and priced fresh veg as well as stall after stall of meat being butchered. This is a wet market, so don't come in flip flops or sandals unless you want blood on your feet! The sights and smells really are not for the faint hearted. That said this place is relatively peaceful and not thronging with tourists - at the time of visit we were the only non locals in the entire marketplace.

“Khlong Toei : Visit like a local”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

Khlong Toei market is located at the Southeast of Bangkok city, hop off the BTS Khlong Toei,go on foot for a while and you'll reach this market. This market is wet market, fruit, snacks, fish, pork and everything else you can imagine, combined.Quite a huge market, and its a place for locals to buy daily needs.Price on everything are cheaper than in Bangkok city.We ate rice + bbq pork + 1 jug of ice and unlimited refill water for just 35 bahts! wow and its delicious.Try and buy strange but mouth watering snacks here.Experience the life of the locals here.Better to visit from early in the morning.
