“Good for a night or two”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

We needed to be in this part of the city for a couple of nights and the location was thus ideal.

The hotel is about 5 mins walk from the airport link and steps away from the Phetchaburi MRT station. Its immediate surroundings are not prepossessing, but the hotel itself is clean and modern. The rooms are small, but functional as is the en suite shower room; the rooms were extremely clean.

Breakfast was fine, and typical of a mid range Thai hotel. Food is served throughout the day and evening, but the choice is limited and, given the lack of choice locally, a ride one stop on the MRT to Sukhumvit will open up a wide range of eateries and entertainment options.

Special mention must be made of the staff who were unfailingly friendly and helpful - uncommon in Bangkok.

Next time we are visiting Bangkok, we'll definitely stay again.

The hotel is nice, clean and the hotel staff are friendly. The stations of makkasan (airport link) and phetchaburi (MRT) are handy for getting around the city. However the hotel has no 7-eleven near by and the hotel charge has charges on things you wouldn't expect (using the laundry bag to put dirty clothes in while you stay there will cost you 250THB and your not even getting them laundered!)
It's a good choice if you are planning on not popping back to the hotel in the day time or having much of a night life.

Excellent quiet location, a short few walking steps from Suvarnabhumi Airport express train station, and few steps as well from the subway station, with only a short subway ride to Siam shopping area.
I felt secured with the 24 hour reception and elevator only be room key operation. Room and bathroom were very clean and comfortable, internet worked well, breakfast was adequate, they had english satelite channels, and the complementary drinking water was nice.
Very friendly staff, I was allowed a late check out, and when I arrived from Phuket on my way to catch my flight back home, they allowers me to store my suitcase although I was not checking in, thank you.

The location is very convenient. Located right by both the metro and the airport sky train, the hotel is clean and nice enough but the staff wasn't overly friendly. I would stay here again solely because of the convenience to the airport.

The Unico Premier MetroLink hotel is located off a little side street directly adjacent to Phetchaburi MRT Station, accessible with a walk of approximately 3 minutes. One station north on the MRT (Rama 9) is home to 2 good shopping centres: Fortune Town, which is great for electronics, camera and computer accessories, and Robinson Department Store, which is a really new and glitzy 7-stories-high shopping centre! One station south on the MRT (Sukhumvit Station) is home to the Central Silom Department store and Terminal 21, another brand new shopping centre with a fantastic local food court that looks upscale, but still extremely affordable by Western standards. The hotel is also approximately 15 minutes away from Pratunam fashion district and the Siam shopping complexes by taxi.

The hotel itself is a very standard 3-star business hotel. The rooms are clean and tidy for the most part, but they aren't glamorous or glitzy by any means. (see photo) Security hasn't been a concern for me: there is a safety deposit box inside the room, and the hotel elevator must be activated using a hotel room key card. The hotel staffs speak good English, they are helpful and friendly as long as you approach them in a decent manner! =) The breakfast is decent but nothing fancy: expect scrambled eggs, bacon or sausages, porridge, apple juice, limited varieties of pastries and fresh fruits.

This hotel can be easily accessed on the Airport Link Train from Suvarnabuhmi Airport, get off at Makkasan Station and walk for 5 minutes. If you are coming from the old Don Muang Airport, take the public BMTA "Airport Bus" A1 (can be located right outside the arrival area, ask for "A1" if you can't find it) which will take you to Mo Chit BTS / Chatuchak Park MRT within half an hour, transfer to the MRT destined for "Hua Lumphong", ride for 8 stations and get off at "Phetchaburi" Station!

Considering I paid roughly $45 USD per night, I would recommend this hotel and will personally return to stay again. It is a very nice budget 3-star hotel, and the location of the hotel is definitely a very attractive selling point!

Getting to Unico Premier Metrolink (UPM) is half the fun. As we were AAs (AirAsiaers), at Don Muang Airport, head for Gate 6, or where all the buses are and head for Chatuchak market/ MRT train stop. Take this train to Petchaburi MRT stop, and take Exit 3, and you'll be right in front of the hotel. However, turn left, then right and walk until you see the Unico hotel sign, and voila, you are there.
Stayed on the 5th floor, facing the main road. The hotel is modish, very new and clean. Get the lowdown on the pros and cons below-
Pros
- 2 min walk to hotel
- Got an upgrade to a superior, with larger room space. Had all the amenities you would expect ie safe, actual cupboard, coffee making facilities, slippers, robes etc.
- Power showers even on the 5th floor, and compact toilet and bath. Loved the granite look.
- Tiled floors, and not smelly stained carpets
- Once out of the hotel, it's just a 5 minute walk across the road, heading toward Sukumvit and you can get food at Midtown plaza, Tesco Express etc.
- Good breakfast spread, mix of Thai and Western which changed everyday
- Good staff who spoke and understood English well - Beng deserves special mention here.
- 60 baht taxi takes you to central Pratunam in less than 10minutes.
- Central location via MRT and taxi to all of Bangkok
- Promised wake up call for early morning flight was delivered promptly.
- Rooms cleaned daily
Cons
- Hairdryer that was not hot, and when asked to change it to a more usual ' hot' kind, we got a technician coming to the room to check. He however spoke little English when we tried to explain the problem. So he goes off, then the front desk calls seeking further explanation etc. By this time, as we rushing off, we just gave up, and was just resigned to a functional hair dryer that seemed to be set to a cool setting for the duration of our stay.
- The diva-head-honcho front manager - Jenny was an interesting character in comparison to her down to earth and obliging colleagues. She appeared aloof and could not take any jokes, as we tried to banter etc, and muttered a lot under her breath to her staff in Thai. We especially hated that as it was very rude and low class (you would expect that of shop staff) considering that the hotel was of good quality. She also promised a breakfast box in view of our early checkout the next morning, which was not done. Odd as other reviews indicated that this was done, regardless of prompting. We were obviously not her favorites.
-The hotel is located in an alley off the train station, which in itself may appear unsafe, but there is a security guard. However, the surrounds are dicey and run down, so this hotel stood like a beacon of modernity in a very grunge like area.
- There are no immediate shops except for a bar and a massage place, which charges slightly higher massages than sukumvit places.
- Often heard the airport train tooting at odd hours, which can make it slightly noisy. However, it does have double glazing as we couldn't hear the traffic.
Overall, still had a good experience, and may consider this hotel again. However, since there are so many choices, trying out a hotel is often more fun in itself. Also may stay closer to Chitlom/Pratunam if was making it a sole shopping experience. Heading back to Don Muang cost us 500baht and was paid for and booked with the hotel.

Room Tip: Stay in rooms away from the road, for total quiet.

Had a great stay in this hotel. Clean rooms and helpful staff. Jojo at the Front Desk assisted us in arranging the tours and answered all our queries. Hotel is accessible by the metro as the hotel is just a 5-10 minute walk to the Makassan Airport Link and about 3 minute walk to Petchaburi MRT Station. One downside of this hotel is that there's no rest nearby.
