“The only way”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

This is the only sensible way to the airport if you stay along the BTS skytrain line. You get on the airport rail link from one of the BTS stations - Phayathai. At this moment, the non-stop express train to the airport has been terminated and only the city link, which makes several stops and carries largely city commuters, is available. It is crowded and uncomfortable as it has just long steel benches for seats. But it is cheap - at just 45 baht (US$1.50, but expensive for daily office workers). The journey takes half-an-hour point to point. At the station (Phayathai), there are only escalators going up but not down. So if you arrive from the airport, you'd have to take the stairs down dragging your luggage. There are no facilities for travelers as it seems to be built for commuters.

“Nice transportation into the city”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

You can take the express or the city train. Express is faster but sometimes it's on an hourly schedule. City train is about twice as long (45 mins I think) but runs more frequently.

TIP: check the schedule before you buy a token to see how long until the next express train.

First trip, i hopped a cab at Makkasan and went right to my hotel. Second trip however, when I got to Makkasan station, it was rush hour and there were no cabs.I had to hoof it a few blocks to the MRT station and take the MRT to Soi 24 where I walked to my hotel pulling my bad. A local suggested going a station or two beyond Makkasan (I think Phaya Thai) to catch a cab.

Otherwise this is much better than fighting Bangkok traffic all the way to your destination in a taxi.

“Superb and convenient service”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

Liked :
Relatively easy to find on the lowest level. If in doubt, ask any airport staff.
Inexpensive and speedy, frequent service to Bangkok.

Disliked :
Lack of signage and inconvenient distance and location of Phetchaburi Underground station, from Makkasan airport rail link station. Solution : Ask pleasant cheerful station staff.

“Easy to use, but not much better than just taking MRT”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

Ont our return to the airport, we decided to just take the MRT to the airport. It was cheaper and did not arrive much later than the 'Airport Express.' I did not really see the advantage to taking a special Airport train. Of course, it's much better than playing games with Bangkok traffic.

“Simple travel”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

I liked the fact that I no longer have to dice with traffic, taxis or AOT limos to get between airport and the city centre. I disliked the fact that the train is as basic as the MRT or BTS - those plastic seats are horribly uncomfortable after 45 minutes. And the train is often packed, with many passengers travelling between stations on the line, or being staff at the airport. Most of the air passengers I saw seemed to be the more budget travellers. Still, fastest way into town - and out of town. The connection with MRT at Makkasan/Phetchaburi is awful though. While signposted, still have to drag suitcase a long way, across a rail way crossing, and down a very badly broken street. Next time I went to the end of the line at Phaya Thai, and used BTS instead.
