We stayed here last week this hotel certainly does not cater for westerners as most of the staff can not even speak or understand english the breakfast also does not cater for westerners with very little choice of fruit and definately no healthy cereals and is noisy and you have breakfast with about 200 others no matter if you go early about 8 am or at 9.45am no taxis will come to the hotel foyer and the staff wont ring one for you so you either have to walk through the shopping centre or try and hail one on the road out front which is one of the busiest intersections i have seen in bangkok i travel to bangkok every six months and would certainly not stay here again there are so many hotels in the area that offer much better service look the rooms were nice and the facilities are good although you have to get to the pool early if you want a lounge chair it is a very big hotel and when we were there it must have just about been to its capacity as there were people everywhere

Yes it is easy to write that it is modern and connected to a mall, that the rooms are white and come with a fancy toilet. So here's some practical advice.

The location is right next to possibly the busiest traffic crossroads in Bangkok where Asok crosses Sukhumvit. The traffic at times can only be described as horrific, and it is unpredictable. The hotel entrance is set back from the street so there is no actual passing traffic, a taxi obtained by the hotel staff might not therefore have been cruising for a fare which can possibly explain why several reviewers talk of a fixed fare being demanded. A taxi from the hotel entrance will be limited as to which direction it can take and this might lead to a somewhat circuitous route having to be taken with resultant higher fare and longer duration. Better not take a taxi from the hotel itself, actually go out and get a taxi moving in the direction you need to go in.

Reviewers talk of direct access to the adjacent mall which is true. However this mall is 'different' in that it contains no department store and few of the usual type of shops found in all other Bangkok malls. It is geared more towards quirky fashion. Sure it is worth a look around but for serious all round shopping you will need to go elsewhere, so if you are only in BKK for 24 hours or so and/or shopping is a priority pick a hotel nearer to Siam or Chit Lom. Most of the top two floors are dedicated to food outlets so no need to go hungry.

Much mention is made in reviews of the direct access to BTS (skytrain) and MRT (underground) and this is true. However the skytrain is now terribly overcrowded at almost all times of the day and at rush hour Monday to Friday it is a challenge to say the least. Asok station is probably the busiest on the network after Siam and at rush hour it gets overwhelmed. Queues for change and tickets are long as are queues to go through to the platform level. At times the platforms are shut off for safety reasons leading to severe back up congestion elsewhere. Practical advice - buy a prepaid ticket to avoid queues for change/tickets. Avoid from 5pm until 7pm. Do not rely on BTS for your airport transfer anywhere near rush hour times. Having said all that BTS can be a useful way of getting up to the main shopping area (Siam/Chit Lom), also the Silom/Pat Pong area and to the river at Saphan Taksin (although the latter two destinations require a change of line at Siam). It will not take you anywhere near to the Grand Palace/Wat Po area however.

The underground is less busy and from Asok (the station is called 'Sukhumvit') the most useful link for tourists is to Silom station for the Pat Pong nighlife area.Apart from that the MRT is mainly used by locals for commuting to the northern suburbs. Again, buy a stored value card if you plan to use this system frequently, queues for tickets can be very long at rush hour times.

I can't really criticise the hotel itself. It is pretty sterile and characterless in my opinion and no different to staying in similar accommodation anywhere in the world, but it does the job and is reasonable value for money. There are, however, many many hotels in Bangkok better situated and having more 'Thainess' than this one.

To conclude I would say that before booking you should closely study google maps and other reference material readily available on the internet and ensure that you are selecting a hotel in the correct location for your requirements.

Great location, easy access to sky train (connected to Asok Station) and attached to the shopping centre. Well appointed rooms with great facilities including swimming pool, sauna, steam rooms, etc. The buffet breakfast was awesome. Staffs were very friendly & organised various tour packages at great rates. Overall enjoyed our stay at the hotel & would recommend it. Great value for money.

Room Tip: Higher floors are more posh with well appointed rooms.

This is my 5th time in Bangkok. Normally I stay at the Shangri-La, but this time we tried something more reasonable in price. this hotel was great. Price was good, breakfast was good, and location was good. We will stay there the next time we are in Bangkok - next year. I liked that it was attached to the mall, and close to the sky train.
there are lots of great restraunts around and the hotl staff was great.
