SO Sofitel Bangkok
Ranked #14 of 895 Hotels in Bangkok
Reviewed April 18, 2014 via mobile

My partner and I stayed in Sofitel originally for 3 nights at the start of our holiday, and then again for another night at the end. I'll get to the description of the hotel further down, but I wanted to start by saying this hotel has the BEST customer service I've ever encountered. Following our first stay, there was a miscommunication regarding our credit card deposit. The GM, Pablo, emailed me directly, apologised profusely and offered us a complimentary stay in a suite for our return to Bangkok. We were due to arrive early (at 0700), however we arrived much earlier than expected (at 0300). This was not a problem, we were allowed to check in straight away with no extra cost, and we even checked out late at 1900. On checking in, the concierge said "the room has been ready, so why not?" I can't even picture another hotel have this attitude! Each member of staff greeted us with the utmost respect, and they couldn't do enough for us. If you're not used to Thai culture, it may seem false or plastic, but I assure you, they genuinely want to help.

Now on to the facilities. This hotel is simply out of this world. In our first stay, we were in an earth suite with views of Lumpini Park. The bed was the comfiest and biggest I've ever seen, the bathroom with 2 person tub and rain shower was gorgeous and the apple TV/entertainment system was perfect. The minibar was restocked daily, and we even had staff bring us chocolate brownies without us requesting them!! The second room we stayed in was Water suite (2610) and was even better - it was so much bigger, two entertainment systems with a completely separate lounge area.

We had access to the Club Signature lounge on both occasions and highly recommend it. Although these rooms are more expensive, we actually ended up saving money because of everything that was included - full breakfast from a menu with further snacks, afternoon tea including sandwiches and desserts, snacks throughout the day, and then free cocktails between 1700-1900. Recommend the Signature cocktail - gorgeous but the way the staff keep bringing them to you can make you a bit tipsy!!! One of the staff noticed I kept stealing the cherry from my partner's drink, and so brought me a glass full of cherries as a surprise!

The pool and gym are everything you'd expect from a 5 star hotel and the location is very convenient for Lumpini Park, Sikhamvit Road and Silom.

My partner proposed to me on the last day of our stay - he said he was waiting for the perfect time and what more perfect is there? Paul on hearing this (Guest Manager) rushed us to the bar upstairs and ordered us our favourite cocktails on the house.

Huge thank you to Akira, Leah, Yves, Pablo and Paul (fierce!!) we'll be back with our wedding party next time we're in Bangkok!! xx

Staying with So Sofitel Bangkok for 6 nights is simply pleasurable choice.

I feel very welcomed by the SMILES that is not just for the arrive moment, but throughout my 6 nights stay.
l
Thoughtfulness from the dedicated hotel team is remarkable. They really know what is best for the guest!

The professionalism, humour and the sincere SMILES from everyone in Sofitel is something i never experience before, though being a SPG and soon to be ACCOR Platinum Cardholder, stayed in more than150 established hotel, 160 nights per year in 5-6 * hotel, Sofitel So Bangkok is the only hotel I would like to share my awesome stay over here!
It has set a new standard in the hospitality industry that is so incredible. Design, comfort, classy pool with cocktail bars might sound ordinary, but the team.....TOP NOTCH SERVICE!

The rooms are amazing. Stunning views, chic and the high floor to ceiling room is PERFECT!
The pictures from the internet cannot justify the actual superb elements that stylishly designed and yet providing the right amenities that can awe the most demanding guests.

There's one occasion, when I lost my wallet on an event, the duty managers actually arranged their in house security staff, to accompany me to the police station to file the report. I'm truly thankful, satisfied and impressed by this "Class of its Own" Splendid Hotel.

Will definitely stay with them in future. Don't wish to settle for the second best.

Keep up the good job and thanks for making my stay a HAPPY experience!

Room Tip: personally I would suggest the Metal element room as the simplicity is calming and the light colour...

I really liked this intimate hotel. Relaxing and very welcoming. Staff was very friendly and eager to serve you the best they can. The design of the whole areas of the hotel is incredibly nice, modern and creative. The swimming pool on the 10th floor is fantastic, open to the sunlight and good views. Everything was just perfect.

We stayed in So Sofitel from 27th to 30th Mar. It was our first time staying in the So Sofitel Bangkok and as I have heard so many great things about the hotel, I was looking forward to my stay there.
Upon checking in, we were given a choice of 2 themed rooms but can't really recalled the rooms but ended up choosing the white room. The room looked nice enough and we just wanted to settle in and sleep as we have had a long day and the next day was going to be a long day as well. I didn't like the room and was contemplating moving to another hotel after 2 nights. On one of my trips back to the hotel, we bumped into Chief Concierge Mr Ing whom I informed him about our displeasure with the room. Immediately he made arrangement for us to view some other rooms the next morning and subsequently moved us to a brown themed room which was so so much better. The planning of the room was well thought out and the comfort and convenience of the guest was of priority, unlike the first room which was not what i had in mind when thinking of the classy So Sofitel. So Sofitel is a very nice hotel but there are lots of fantastic hotels in Bangkok with much better location. The best thing going for So Sofitel is it's staff. Besides Mr Ing, all the staff I have encountered are always ever so polite and always willing to assist in any way possible. Kudos to the training department. It is the staff that makes the difference for me. CHE

Room Tip: Do not choose the white rooms !!1

My stay in last september, it was unpleasant upon check in, there advertized that we could choose type of the room / element upon check in, but front staff hand me out the key without any explanation. When I asked him whether I could choose the type of room, he reluctantly responded.

I stayed wood element room, and it's less than 2 yeasr after hotel was opened, the furniture were well-worn with so many scratches. Connecting slide door to the next room, there were aperture which we could see the next room.

Upon check out, we were asked the survey, and noted we were not so happy, they were so surprised. I could not understand why they were so confident for their service. Hotel is honestly speaking "Over-priced", not value for money. We can stay more comfortable hotel in half price.

After then, I found reasonable rate in expedia site by accident, while we cannot find in their own website. So I tried Best Price Gurantee application. Acoor BPG procedure were complicated, and had to prepare screen shot to show the proof. Once I sent request through website, no response mail of acceptance were received. After 5days, 1st mail of decline from E-commerce manager arrived, because "our best flexible rate include 20% off SPA discount, but expedia rate not". That means, any Best Price gurantee won't work, even if we can find lower rate in other source with "same hotel, same dates, same room type, same sales conditions (Acoor mentioned)". Do you think 20% SPA discount, are "Sales condition" ?

I replied them it was cheat, then I received 2nd mail from Director of Revenue, that they declined BPG report again, as expedia rate were "non refundable". I was quite surprised to see that, because screen shot clearly mentioned "Free Cancellation by XXX (arrival day) !!! Accor forces us complicated procedure for BPG but they are so rude that they ignore the definite evidence.
Or they cannot understand English well.

There are so many nice hotels in Bangkok, and no reason to have uncomfortable experience with paying extra money.
