Made a serious mistake of accepting a friend’s invitation for a Saturday lunch at the all-day dining venue.
To begin with, the location is so inconvenient for someone who is driving. Having being stuck in the traffic and running terribly late, I arrived at the hotel only to be told that the car park is full and that I have to park next door in a Mall. More time lost and more frustrations but finally managed to go up several floors and got a car park. The elevators to the ground floor of the building are so crowded with wholesale shoppers with heaps of items and it takes forever to get a lift. When I got to the ground floor I had to make my way through a much crowed mall selling cheap clothes and inundated with hundreds of bargain hunters. Because of the very tight walkways full with merchandize I felt very insecure, especially after a few fires that occurred in the city in the recent times.
Having made it to the hotel, I arrived at the Square Restaurant and got the shock of my life when I saw the set up for a band in the middle of the restaurant, at Lunch time, with Keyboard, drums and all. And here, I was going to have a quite lunch with a friend whom I had seen for a while!
We asked to be moved as far as possible from the band but still when the band returned after a break, it was like one of the coffee shops from the 80’s. The music was loud and bad to say the least and any conversation was impossible! I really don’t understand hotels that pay good money to upset their customers by making awful decisions like this. The venue itself was good and people go to eat on a Saturday afternoon. Not to get their ears blasted by frustrated musicians. Very seriously, it looked so old fashioned and outdated.
I asked for the A La Carte menu as I did not want the buffet. This became a drama as the staff immediately took away my water glass which was already filled. The reason, “Free water is only for people who partake the buffet”. I had to finally speak to some sort of a manager to explain that I did not take all this trouble and come to this place to have a free glass of water and that I am prepared to pay for whatever I consume. Once again, poor policies and training and I must mention that the staff was untrained and clueless and each time we asked for something someone else was called for translation and this was very frustrating.
On the way out we saw crowds of people lying down on the seats and sofas or whatever that they could get in the lobby and realized that this was a haven for shoppers who come for cheap bargains in the nearby malls. Certainly not for business or upmarket dining.
