We stayed at Eastin Grand on recommendation of travel agent ( best@travel) and it was a great hotel just near the skytrain station Sarakat - with its own walkway to the station. We were on 19th floor with good views over the city. The 5th floor restaurant was very good for breakfast and good for evening meal. We ate next door at The Blue Elephant (they have a restaurant in London too!) The food here was excellent probably the best that we had in Thailand but you do need to book.
Front concierge were very helpful at arranging a guided tour for us which we did with our own guide. (Maha was the guide) He was very knowledgable and told us lots about Buddhism. We also visited the Jim Thompson House- he was the American who revived the silk industry - beautiful house and very good restaurant there. Also a shop although items were quite pricey.
I would stay there again especially in transit to anywhere else. We arrived early in the morning but they were able to offer us a room straight away. You get given a room card which you also need to use in the lift or you won't go anywhere!More
