We had an overnight layover in Bangkok (BKK), arriving at midnight and leaving at 9am, so making it into the city was not worth it. The entrance to the hotel is a bit sketchy but the hotel as such is clean and decent for the low rate one pays for it.
The room was clean, the bed was not the most comfortable thing in the world but it would do for $20 USD a night.
The breakfast for 3 USD was quite good, and they arranged for a taxi pickup.

If you have the money to spare, I would go with the Sofitel inside BKK. If you want to spend the money on the rest of your trip, then this is a good option.

About 10 minutes from the airport and 160 BTH provided the taxi meter is on and 100 BTH return.
The hotel arrange the return journey.
Very helpful reception staff.
The room was large and clean.
Good WiFi.
The surrounding area was a bit industrial with little to see.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are the same.

Whatever its few shortcomings, this is a gem. Bargain of the century at 13 GBP (about 20 USD). Owner a really lovely old fella, spoke reasonable English, said he'd once lived in London. Your biggest problem will be getting your airport taxi driver to find the place! Mine got lost, and it's no surprise because Bangkok is an gigantic size for them to learn every address. Best bet is to present the taxi driver with your pre-printed Google map. Anyway, you can't do better if you just need a bed for the night near the airport. It's parallel to the runways, so little take-off/landing noise. The best thing is free in-room wifi, this is a godsend if you've spent 18 hours on flights to get here. Juliet balconies (half taken up by the air conditioner though) but sufficient to dry your clothes and have a smoke. A few munchies also provided for free in the room, and a fridge. No English-language TV channels, but I won't be writing to complain! One other thing, to get from the hotel downtown, the owner will book you a taxi to the airport rail link station at Latkrabang, it's easy from there as a stranger, as all the signage and ticket machines are bilingual Thai/English.

Arrived late to BKK and chose this hotel for the night. Taxi shouldn't cost you more than 150-200 baht from the airport, ask for "meter". It is on a small street, warehouses are around. 7/11 is at the main street, very close. Make sure you know the exact address or print out the map - some drivers may not know the place.

We stayed here for one night for an early morning departure. Room was very spacious and very clean. Wished we had this room in DT Bangkok actually. Small grocery store 5 min up the street. Our taxi driver taking us from the airport to the hotel tried to scam 650 Bhat out of us when the trip should cost under 200. The trip from the hotel to the airport is 100 Bhat. So be careful of this, as its a usual occurrence. (From the airport there is a 50Bhat add on to the meter price).
