My boyfriend and I took the afternoon class on January 3rd of 2014. Our teacher was the lovely Irin who did a great job of teaching us about traditional ingredients of Thai meals and about the tips and tricks of how to cook them to perfection.

The class began with a visit to a local food market where Irin's collegue Nancy introduced us to all the fresh ingredients that should be used that day. Afterwards we returned to the school and started preparing the meals one after the other. First Irin explained all the steps to the class, then you sit down and start preparing the ingredients for your own meal. The coordination between the many people who work at the cooking school is amazing! Every time you turn back around to your assigned place at the table, a new set of fresh ingredients and clean cooking supplies stands there waiting to be used. Then everyone goes over to their cooking station - a gas cooker with a wok for each of the students - and proceeds to cook their food. Don't worry, you will get to eat it right away in the comfy dining room! The tables are arranged perfectly and there are lots of beverages to choose from.

That day we cooked Mussaman Chicken Curry, Tom Yum Goong (spicy prawn soup), Khao Phat Kai (fried rice with chicken and egg) and Mango Stickrice for dessert. Everything tasted so amazing we couldn't believe we just cooked these things ourselves :)

I absolutely recommend visiting a cooking class at Sompong Thai Cooking School if you enjoy cooking and eating good food! It's absolutely worth the cost of 1000 Baht (about 25 € / 34 $).

Thanks so much to Irin, Nancy and everyone else at the School!

This was my first cooking class, but it was clearly the best. I booked for my whole family on a very busy holiday time and they opened up another classroom / kitchen for just 8 of us. The setting was very intimate, and we were able to learn from the close hands-on instruction. We started with a trip to the market learning a lot about the varied fruits and vegetables and how to select them ripe and fresh.

In fairness, a cooking course really isn't about the recipe. In fact you will get similar recipes online or at any other course. Furthermore, most facilities are of similar caliber, with clean environment, and one burner per student layout. But what sets these courses apart is truly the instructor... and in this case the instructors were incredible.

The instructors teach WHY each step is important, how and when to substitute ingredients, WHAT the cooking process is doing to the dish, and the whole time they are engaging, sweet, encouraging, and funny. Irin was our instructor, and we all were luck to have her tutelage.

Hubbie and I are touring a few Asian countries for our honeymoon. This is by far my favorite tourism activity by far!

Very organized! Took train to station and met by school's representative at station exit. They drove us to school. Got introduction. Walked to the market to learn about our ingredients and to pick up food ingredients.

Irin (Irene) was our instructor. Can't enough enough great things about her. She was so charming, humorous, and skilled teacher! While staff is lovely! You watch instructor make each dish. Then you (individually) get to make each dish too! Met other students and it was a blast for everyone. It's a steal! You must sign up now. Either paypal for class before or pay Thai baht/cash when you arrive. No credit cards. WORTH IT! Loved it!!
