A very reasonably priced budget hotel. The room was a good size, very clean, nicely decorated and included a fridge. The bathroom was very small and in the wet room style with the shower over the toilet - common in budget hotels across Asia. They emailled us a helpful map when we made our booking which our taxi driver needed to find it.

Location is in a quiet back street so very peaceful but there is absolutely nothing around for eating or drinking on an evening. During the day there is a market with good, cheap local restaurants within 5-10 minutes walk (turn right out of the hotel) but nothing open at night. Walking to major sights (Grand Palace etc) is doable but probably takes about 45 minutes. However it is very close to the stop for the San Saeb canal boat which is an excellent, fast and cheap way to get to downtown, and a very fun experience too.

Staff didn't go out of their way but were pleasant enough and willing to help if asked - e.g. when we checked out and asked the girl on reception to call us a taxi she walked out to the street with us and explained our destination to him in Thai.

woman who spoke the best english was very nice and helpful. the rooms were very good for their price - only problem was the size of the bathroom. Shame it is quite far from anything except the golden mount but that didn't stop us walking 20 mins to khao san. value for money and friendly to an extent.

Nice and clean rooms, but far to walk to Khao San rd. Also staff OK, but one guy is terrible, gives you a feeling that you should be there for him and not the other way around. Would recomend if you have time to walk and if you know local language.

It was my intention to stay at Smile Inn a long time as it was the best-located option for my business in Bangkok. However, I moved out after just a few days.

Unless you have to stay in that part of town for whatever reason, DON'T! It is not in and of itself terrible - and interesting to visit for a day - but really hard to get to and from. You would be spending money on tuk-tuks and taxis, which you could as well be spending on a nicer hotel. It can be hard to find. The nearest MRT station is Hua Lamphong (50-60 THB by tuk-tuk); there's also a boat station nearby, from which you can travel to Pathumwan. Walking anywhere in that area is very unpleasant due to heavy traffic and fumes. It also feels unsafe in the evening. There are a couple of small 7/11's in the vicinity of Smile Inn, but no decent place to shop or eat.

The rooms are very clean, painted in cheerful colors. The furniture is cheap, of course, so it looks more worn and dirty than it really is. There's a fridge, air-conditioning and hot water in the tiny bathroom. The first room I had was on the second floor. It was so noisy, it was impossible to sleep. The second room I had was on the fourth floor, overlooking the river, and was quieter. Both rooms had bars on the windows, which was just sad. The beds in both were terrible! The sheet kept trying to slide off the very hard fake leather mattress, which felt more like slippery floor.

The staff were mostly nice and tried to be help make me comfortable. One member of staff, however, was really rude and unhelpful, so that ruined the otherwise positive imporession. When I was checking out, an hour later than I'd said I would, he caused a long delay, due to which I could have missed my flight.

I would not recommend Smile Inn, for neither a long nor a short stay in Bangkok. The location is not good and the sleep quality - really bad. Yes, it is cheap, but it's not a bargain in terms of quality!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 3rd/4th floor facing the river - a little quieter than the rooms overlooking t...

Good things:
- very clean room
- very helpful and friendly staff
- large TV 50''
- everything seems to be brand new

Things to improve:
- poor breakfast (I would not call it breakfast at all)
- location is fine but it is not near enough to anything so you need a tuk tuk each time you want go somewhere
- neighbourhood does not feel secure

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the river are noisy in the morning as there are many boats...
