MBK is a large shopping centre in the heart of Bangkok. It is readily accessible via a taxi at a cost of around 101 Baht (I think that's what we paid) each way from Khao San Road. It features around 7 floors with various items from food, clothing, souvenirs, electronics, etc. There is nothing here you won't be able to find. A lot of the stores tend to sell a lot of the junk you will find on the street but because they are so many of them you can effectively play them against each other to achieve better bargains. As a general rule offer them half of the FIRST offer they make you. The process will normally start with you looking at the tag. The shop owner will then inevitably state "50% off today", halve the price then "Special price for you" and reduce it further more. You then half the end result of that process. You can usually come up a bit from this, but half is normally what they settle for. For example the tag will have 800 baht, they will be like 400 baht ("50% off") > 300 baht ("Special discount for you") > You then offer them 150 baht and maybe meet them at 200 baht.If they dont budge walk away as they understand you won't be back and onto the store next door which sells the same stuff and they will soon find their voice. The taxi rank out of here is a bit of a mess with people just getting the taxi's/tuk tuks before they get to the actual rank and the security guards doing nothing to prevent this. It is a full day activity and is pretty exhausting going through the various stores.
